A WOMAN who was fatally injured sparking a murder investigation has been named locally as a “well-liked” university lecturer.

The Italian media has named Dr Antonella Castelvedere, 52, as the victim of a fatal incident after her family came forward.

A murder investigation was launched after her death at an address in Wickham Road, Colchester.

Police officers flocked to the scene at about 11.45am on Wednesday after calls came in with concerns for a woman’s welfare.

When they arrived, she was found to be seriously wounded. She later died at the scene.

The University of Suffolk has confirmed to the Gazette Dr Castelvedere, a senior lecturer in English Literature and MA creative and critical course leader, has died.

A spokesman said: “The University of Suffolk community is deeply saddened by the untimely death of Dr Antonella Castelvedere.

“Antonella was a widely respected and well-liked member of staff at the university where she was an outstanding academic in English and critical writing.

“Our thoughts are with her family at this very difficult time.”

The university’s website adds Dr Castelvedere had a “long experience” in enhancing student experiences through her academic leadership, innovative curriculum design and professional partnerships.

The Italian press reports the 52-year-old hails from Brescia, a city in northern Italy, and leaves behind a young daughter.

Since the incident, Detective Chief Inspector Antony Alcock, who is leading the investigation, stated a dedicated team of detectives are continuing to piece together what happened.

He explained officers are gathering accounts from people who have come forward to speak with them, and urged others who may have any information to get in contact with the force.

Mr Alcock added: “I would also reiterate that our inquiries so far suggest this was an isolated incident and there is no threat posed to the wider public in Colchester.”

Essex Police said it could not comment on the woman’s identity at the time of going to press.
