Residents have been told to keep “doors and windows closed” as a massive fire has erupted at an industrial estate in Nottingham.
Emergency services were called to a large recycling centre fire off the A52 Clifton Boulevard. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that multiple fire stations attended the incident in Alcester Street, in Dunkirk, following a call at 4.22am this morning.
A Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson was unable to confirm the specific business affected by the fire, but Alcester Street is home to scrap metal recycling businesses.
It stated: “We are currently in attendance at a recycling fire in Dunkirk, following a call at 4.22am. Please avoid the area whilst our crews deal with the incident.

“The smoke is travelling north, towards the Queen’s Medical Centre. Please keep doors and windows closed.”
Crews from West Bridgford, Highfields, London Road, Stockhill and Carlton were all involved in tackling the fire, NottinghamshireLive reports. And a fire service spokesperson said that, at the height of the incident, nine fire engines were in attendance. That has now been scaled back to five.
A smaller number of crews are expected to remain at the scene for the “next few hours” while the fire is dampened down, but people are still urged to stay away.
The fire service states: “We are starting to scale back our attendance at the fire on Alcester Street, Dunkirk. Four appliances will remain on scene – it’s likely we’re going to be on scene for the next few hours at least.
“We still ask the public to stay away from the area to allow our firefighting to continue.”
