A man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged car bomb attack on a police station in Northern Ireland.
The 66-year-old man, who police have not named, is charged with attempted murder in relation to an incident at Dunmurry Police Station, as well as offences including possessing explosives with intent to endanger life or cause serious injury to property, causing an explosion likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property, possession of articles for use in terrorism, and hijacking.
The man, who was detained in the Dunmurry area on Tuesday, was arrested under the Terrorism Act. He is due to appear before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on Saturday. As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
A male delivery driver was allegedly hijacked in the Twinbrook area of west Belfast on Saturday (April 25). It is alleged the car was fitted with a gas cylinder device before the driver was ordered to go to Dunmurry Police Station.
The car exploded outside the station while people were evacuating. No one was injured.
