The product has been urgently recalled after testing showed it may contain trace levels of asbestos.
An urgent product recall has been issued for a children’s craft kit after tests showed the sand included may be contaminated with asbestos. The item, manufactured by Addo Play Limited, has been found to fall short of health and safety standards outlined in the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
The Out To Impress Creative Candles from Addo Play Ltd could contain trace amounts of asbestos. Anyone who’s bought the product is being warned to cease using it straight away, ensure it’s kept well away from children, and wear gloves plus a face covering when touching it.
Even minimal exposure to asbestos can present serious health risks. The items have been pulled from shop floors and are being recalled by the manufacturer from purchasers, reports the Express.
The product was available through The Entertainer and Early Learning Centre, Tesco, Matalan, M&S, Hobbycraft, Moonpig, British Garden Centres, and TG Jones from September 2024 through to February 2026.
The Office for Product Safety Standards’ hazard warning read: “The product presents a risk to health as the sand may be contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos. Asbestos is a banned substance because it poses a risk to health even at low levels of exposure.
“The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.”
