Waitrose has lowered prices on over 160 own-brand products as part of a new £20million investment to help shoppers save money.

Prices have been reduced by an average of 12% from today, with some everyday items cut by more than 25%.

Some of the items that have been cut include stapes such as free range eggs, onions, chicken thighs, apples, frozen peas, chickpeas and chopped tomatoes.

Almost half (47%) of the reductions are on products from the Essential Waitrose range. The move marks the ninth round of New Lower Prices since 2023, taking Waitrose’s total investment to £162.5million across more than 1,000 products.

However, customers should always still shop around for the best prices, as just because something has been reduced, it doesn’t mean you can’t still get it cheaper elsewhere.

Nathan Ansell, Waitrose Chief Customer Officer, said: “Customers are watching what they spend, but they don’t want to compromise on the food they buy.

“This investment is about doing the right thing for our customers, helping them save on the products they shop most often, while keeping the quality they expect from Waitrose.

“We know our customers – the Food Lovers who shop with us – want to feel confident in the food they buy, without compromising on what matters to them.”

Savings are available across fresh and frozen food, store cupboard staples and household products in Waitrose shops and online.

In more supermarket news, grocery price inflation slowed again this month as consumers brace themselves for the fallout from the Middle East crisis.

Supermarket prices were 3.1% higher than a year ago in May, down from 3.8% in April and 4.3% in March, figures from Worldpanel by Numerator show.

Shoppers leant on promotions to keep costs down, with 30.3% of sales involving a deal last month, up from 28.4% a year ago.

Spending on full price items was virtually flat, growing by only 0.1%.
