UK weather maps are turning icy blue as an Arctic freeze threatens cold snap temperatures across 14 cities.
The most recent UK weather maps are displaying icy blue hues, signalling an arctic blast set to deliver freezing temperatures across much of the nation.
Charts from WXCharts indicate a cold weather front striking the UK in early May, bringing the potential for sub-zero conditions. Scotland’s northern regions will bear the coldest temperatures, with some locations around Aberdeen and Dundee likely to experience a cold snap bringing lows between 0C and -3C at 6am on May 9.
The maps indicate exceptionally cold conditions across the remainder of the country that morning, particularly in southern England, where temperatures will barely climb above freezing. England’s north west will be the coldest region, with the mercury dropping to between 2C and 4C, according to the charts.
A Met Office weather forecast spanning May 9 and 10 described conditions during that timeframe as likely “changeable”.
The complete forecast stated: “During this period, conditions will probably be fairly changeable, with low pressure systems in the vicinity of the UK. This means an increasing chance of showers or longer spells of rain, along with some strong winds at times.
However, dry interludes with spells of warm sunshine are still likely, with a risk of a few short-lived early-morning fog patches.” UK weather is set to shift from tomorrow (April 28) following a recent warm spell. Met Office maps indicate that come Tuesday, conditions will take a turn for the worse. By 8am, almost the entire UK will be blanketed in cloud cover.
Further maps reveal that temperatures will start to fall, with Manchester seeing the mercury drop to as low as 9C. London will also experience 9C, while Cardiff will reach 10C and Plymouth 11C. North of the border, Aberdeen will see 8C, with Glasgow hitting 10C. Over in Northern Ireland, Belfast will record 10C.
