If you want that perfectly pushed up look with your blazer sleeves but are sick of them always sliding down, River Island’s brilliant new design feature just changed the game

When it comes to styling a blazer, one of the easiest tricks to make it look more intentional and stylish is to simply push the sleeves up to the three quarter point. This not only helps give it a more laid-back look, but it breaks up the blocky look of an oversized blazer, showing a little more skin and making it a more dynamic silhouette.

However, if you always find your blazer sleeves quickly slip back down again then River Island’s new hidden design feature might have just changed the game for you. The brand new Beige Oversized Long Sleeve Blazer features a clever detail that keeps the sleeves held up all by themselves, without ruining the silhouette or making you push them back up every few minutes.

In a Facebook video posted by River Island, the brand’s tailoring designer showed off the new blazer, which features a hidden drawstring detail inside each sleeve. In the video, she shared that she used to use carefully placed hair bobbles as a hack to keep her blazer sleeves held up in the desired position.

Other options people use are sleeve garters, which fasten around your sleeves and let you tuck, roll or push the sleeve up and hold them in place. You can pick these up for £18 a pair at Camilla and Marc or in a pack of three pairs for £6.29 at Amazon.

But since hair bobbles or sleeve garters can be a little tight on your arms or don’t always hold all the material, she designed the new Oversized Long Sleeve Blazer to make sure you don’t have to rely on handy hacks any more. Instead, the blazer’s sleeves feature a white internal section that tightens with a drawstring which can’t be seen when you’re wearing it.

You simply pull the drawstring tight and push it up your arm, where it remains hidden but keeps the sleeve firmly at your elbows (or forearms, wherever you prefer to place it). This doesn’t affect the look of the blazer outside, and means you won’t spend the day with hair ties cutting into your arms either.

River Island shoppers praised the invention on the Facebook video, with one calling the Oversized Long Sleeve Blazer a “game changer” and another saying it was a “brilliant idea”.

The Oversized Long Sleeve Blazer also comes in navy and is available in sizes six to 18. It has a classic relaxed fit, with a three-button fastening up the front and a lapel collar, as well as functional front pockets and a faux chest pocket for that easy going look.

You can shop the matching trousers to create a cohesive tailored suit look, but the blazer is a great wardrobe staple on its own. Wear it with everything from jeans and wide leg trousers to denim shorts and mini skirts, and you can easily layer it on its own or wear it by itself for a more sultry evening look.
