Virgin Media has launched a new broadband deal that cuts its 1,130Mbps fibre broadband to 87p per day

Virgin Media just reduced it’s fastest broadband to a record low price. The provider has kicked off a surpise sale that’s seen more than £70 knocked off its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband.

This delivers ‘blazing-fast’ speeds up to 1,130Mbps and usually costs £29.99 per month, but is now up for grabs at £26.99. This equates to a saving of £72 over the 24-month contract and works out at roughly 87p per day.

According to Virgin, this is the ‘lowest ever price’ for its Gig1 plan. With these speeds, a feature-length HD film can be downloaded in less than 30 seconds, while a 50GB PS5 game can be ready to play in less than seven minutes.

In comparison, households with 70Mbps speeds can expect the same game to take more than 90 minutes to download. It also means streaming Netflix and gaming online can be enjoyed with a super-smooth connection, reports the Express.

There is a catch, though, as Virgin has confirmed the discounted £26.99 rate will increase twice during the minimum term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Also, the 1,130Mbps speeds are not available for every UK household, so it’s worth checking availability with Virgin’s postcode checker.

Virgin Media has reduced its Gig1 Fibre Broadband to the ‘lowest ever price’ of £26.99 per month, saving £72 across the 24-month term.

When compared to some of Virgin’s competitors, such as Sky, it’s easy to see why the £26.99 Gig1 deal is worth serious consideration. Despite Sky reducing its comparable 900Mbps plan to £28, it’s still more expensive than Virgin and offers slower speeds.

BT is even more pricey, with access to its 900Mbps connection costing £37.99. It’s also worth checking whether it’s cheaper to switch to an alternative network provider. A growing number of so-called alt-nets continue to emerge across the UK, with many undercutting the big-name brands on price.

Community Fibre is currently offering 1Gbps speeds for just £25 per month with first three months free and prices frozen for the duration of the contract.. However, this provider only serves London and select south-east locations.

Not everyone needs whopping speeds of around 1GB, so it’s worth considering one’s before signing a lengthy contract. As a rough guide, a couple living in a flat and streaming Netflix each evening should manage perfectly well with speeds of around 100Mbps.

Larger households where people are working from home, downloading films and gaming online should look at speeds of at least 300Mbps. Think of a broadband connection like a road – the heavier the traffic, the slower everything moves.

Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre is essentially like having a motorway running directly into your living room, rather than a narrow B road.
