Spate of anti-semitic attacks frighten parents who urge authorities for more security at schools
Jewish parents in north west London are asking for increased security at schools in the area after a string of terrifying anti-semitic terror attacks.
The UK’s largest Jewish primary school – Sinai – is barely a mile from the Harrow synagogue which was hit by a firebomb over the weekend. The incident sent shockwaves across the area and several schools are already stepping up patrols to protect their children. Counter terrorism police are investigating the crimes and the Met have specialist teams patrolling outside synagogues, schools and businesses under threat. One parent mum-of-two Melissa Rosen told the Mirror: “I want to see more protection, whether it’s police presence or hiring more security.
“I feel the authorities have not done enough. I want to see action.” She added: “I am deeply concerned. It’s the job of a parent to protect your kids. “We have to be really more vigilant. It is scary not knowing what could happen during the day while they are in school. I am ready to do patrols myself if that would help.
“The catalyst is from the Middle East. But it has become almost trendy to hop on the anti-Semitism bandwagon and make our lives scary.”
Mark Gold, 42, said: “I want more action on security at this school. We need more action, more security. We need higher walls.
“I think the level of threat is increased. I am concerned. I went to a non-Jewish school and we had almost no walls. I want to see more police outside the school, but we don’t want to draw undue attention to these sites. If we have loads of police they should rather be mainly plain-clothes.
“I think it’s problematic all over the world so I do not want to leave the UK. We need to stamp out the antisemitism. I think it’s about educating people, and a lot of what is online is really incendiary. People who read this can be easily misled.
“We should remove all Hebrew writing, no matter how small, from the signs around the school. Our logo has some Hebrew on it. We should remain as under the radar as we can.”
Another parent, who asked to remain anonymous said: “Governments over the past couple fo decades have allowed political correctness to stop them admitting we have certain groups aiming to do harm to Jewish citizens of the UK. “The authorities must act to get the Muslim community to condemn these things. It’s a noisy minority of a minority who are threatening the Jews, and all minorities should stand united against these people.
“I am actually pleased my children go to a Jewish school, as I feel they are not necessarily safe if they were going to a non-Jewish school, where they could face discrimination by indoctrinated fellow-pupils.
“Our police forces across the country have been hollowed out over the last 15 to 20 years, but they are doing their best.”
