Vanilla perfumes are my favourite scent for spring and summer, and one of my all-time favourites had everyone ask me where it was from – and now it’s almost £30 off
One of the many perks of being a beauty writer is getting to try countless different perfumes, which means I’ve built up quite a collection of favourites over the years. However there’s one that I come back to time and time again, especially in the spring and summer months; Kayali’s Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar 42 Eau de Parfum.
Vanilla-based perfumes are some of my all-time favourites, and Kayali’s is just the right balance of sweet, spicy and grounded to wear all through the warmer weather – although it’s just as good in the autumn and winter months too. And it’s not just me who’s a fan; the last time I wore it to a party, every single person I spoke to asked me what I was wearing because it smelled “unbelivable”.

Since it’s one of my favourite scents, I’ll take any excuse to stock up on a bottle of Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar 42 , and the current offer at Boots is too good to miss. The 50ml bottle – which is usually priced at £80 – is now on sale for just £53.33, which means I can get my hands on another bottle for almost £30 less ready when mine inevitably runs out.
That being said, the scent trail and longevity of Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar 42 is seriously impressive, and a couple of sprays before you leave the house is more than enough to last you all day. I was still getting compliments six or seven hours after I’d last sprayed it, so a single bottle should last you a long time, making it a more than worthwhile investment.
It’s a lighter take on the brand’s cult-favourite Vanilla 28 perfume, and has top notes of candied pear, violet leaves, rum, ylang-ylang, marshmallow and vanilla cream. The middle notes have hints of jasmine, labdanum, white caramel, bubblegum and jellybean, whilst the dry down scent has notes of tonka, vetiver, sandalwood, cashmere woods, patchouli, rock sugar, Kayali signature accord. This might sound like a whole lot of different scents, they actually blend perfectly together to create something that’s sweet, spicy and sugary whilst still smelling light, fresh and not too sickly.
If you want something with a slightly more pared back vanilla scent, Ellis Brooklyn’s Vanilla Salt (£126 for 50ml) has notes of whipped cream, jasmine, musk and Magdegascan vanilla. I’m also a big fan of Ariana Grande’s LOVENOTES Vanilla Suede (£60 for 125ml – was £75) which has a slightly deeper, warmer scent of rice milk, vanilla bean and musk.
However, for me the Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar 42 from Kayali is a definite tried and tested favourite. The patchouli and sandalwood to make it a slightly earthier scent which may not be for everyone, but if you love sweet, vanilla-based fragrances then this is one for you.
