Merseyside Police have launched a murder investigation after a 54-year-old man died following an alleged assault at a chip shop in Stockbridge Village, Liverpool
A murder investigation has been launched after a man lost his life following an alleged assault inside a fish and chip shop.
At around 7.30pm on Friday, April 17, a 54 year old man was allegedly attacked inside The Village Chippy, in Stockbridge Village, Merseyside, by another man.
The incident was brought to the attention of police the following day by the North West Ambulance Service after the victim was taken to hospital with a serious head injury. The victim passed away this afternoon (Tuesday, April 21) and specialist officers are currently supporting his family.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death. A murder inquiry is now under way and police are urging anyone with information to come forward as a matter of urgency.
A 25-year-old man from Stockbridge Village, who was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent, remains on conditional bail.
Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this tragic time.”, reports the Liverpool Echo.
“I know people living in the local community will be understandably upset and concerned, but I want them to be reassured that we are thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
“A murder investigation is now underway and we are appealing for information.
