Hundreds of thousands of people are missing out, Martin Lewis has said
Martin Lewis has shared an urgent alert as almost a million people across the UK are missing out on financial support worth thousands of pounds.
The Money Saving Expert (MSE) founder took to X, formerly Twitter, on Monday where he asked his many follows to “please share” his update. He said: “PENSION CREDIT CAN BE WORTH £1,000s YET 900,000 ELIGIBLE ARE MISSING OUT. You should check if you’re of State Pension age, (roughly 66+) with a low total weekly income.”
He added that those who are single are “likely to get it” with a weekly income of under £238, though added it is worth checking your eligibility if your income is under £255 a week. For couples – both of whom are State Pension age – he explained that you’ll likely be eligible if your combined income is less than £363 a week, but that you may also get it if the amount falls under £380 a week.
Mr Lewis added: “Don’t stall, just call (or check online) to see if you’re due it…” He further explained that people can check on Gov.uk to see if they are eligible – or call 0800 99 1234, or 0808 100 6165 in Northern Ireland.
As well as topping up income, Pension Credit comes with other perks. For instance, Pension Credit enables those aged 75 and above to receive a free TV Licence.
You may also get Housing Benefit if you’re renting your home, support for Mortgage Interest if you’re a homeowner, Council Tax reduction, assistance with NHS dental care, eyewear and travel expenses for hospital visits, support with heating bills via the Warm Home Discount Scheme, and a reduced rate on Royal Mail’s redirection service if you move home.
