Andrew Magee, from Widnes in Cheshire, was trusted to join a family on a camping holiday, but when the parents fell asleep he lead their 15-year-old daughter to a tent where he raped her

A man has been jailed for raping a teen girl as her parents slept just a few feet away in a nearby tent.

Andrew Magee, from Widnes in Cheshire, was considered a family friend and had been invited along to stay with the family at a campsite. The group were reportedly socialising together around a campfire before the assault, Chester Crown Court heard.

As the night wore on, each of the attendees left to go to bed, leaving just 41-year-old Magee and the 15-year-old victim alone. Throughout the night, Magee had been making inappropriate compliments towards the teenager, but once left along he started touching her. The first physical contact happened when he placed his hand on her knee, the Liverpool Echo reports.

He then took the victim’s hand before leading her across the campsite and raping and sexually assaulting her as her family slept in a nearby tent. The schoolgirl was too scared to speak out at the scene, but later told her dad about what had happened.

The victim’s dad contacted Magee via Facebook who admitted that he had sex with the victim at the campsite. The incident was reported to police and Magee was later interviewed and charged with multiple offences.

Magee, of Browning Way, Widnes, was found guilty of three counts of rape and one count of sexually assault by penetration. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Monday, March 25 at Chester Crown Court.

In addition to his prison sentence Magee was also handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.

Following his sentencing Detective Sergeant Anthony Evans said: “Magee was a trusted family friend, and he was well aware that the victim was only 15-year-old, yet despite this he chose to rape the teenager. His actions have had devastating consequences for the victim and her family, but thankfully, as a result of the courage and bravery she has shown, Magee is now facing the consequences of his actions.

“While she will never be able to forget what happened that night, I hope that the sentence handed to him will provide her with some closure.” To report any sexual offence, call Cheshire Constabulary on 101 or visit here.
