A man couldn’t believe his eyes when opening a Too Good To Go bag from Waitrose – and other shoppers have admitted they’re jealous of the items he came away with
Buying a Too Good To Go bag is already known as one of the cheapest ways to feed your family while helping cut food waste – but one man says his latest haul may be the “maddest” one he’s ever received. The shopper was left stunned after spending just £11 on two Waitrose & Partners Too Good To Go bags, admitting he instantly realised he had massively underestimated how much food he was going to get.
Sharing the haul online, he explained: “Got two boxes as they had a good star rating and immediately realised I should have ordered one.” Despite the huge amount of food, he insisted nothing would go to waste thanks to half term – and having plenty of freezer space at home.
The man admitted he already knew Waitrose food was usually “very high quality”, but still wasn’t prepared for just how generous the bags would be. He said: “They always do very good TGTG boxes but this was insane.”
He posted an image of how much he got on Reddit, showing just how impressive his haul was, with more than 30 sandwiches and wraps, multiple ready meals, loaves of bread, fresh fruit, eclairs, and even a packet of moules marinière.
Laughing about the luxury groceries, he joked that his children have no idea how lucky they are growing up surrounded by premium supermarket food. “My childhood had considerably more Tesco Value and zero Waitrose or Charlie Bigham food,” he added.
The shopper also explained how investing in a chest freezer has completely changed the way his family shops and made the app even more worthwhile financially. He revealed his wife is disabled while he works as a self-employed delivery driver, meaning reducing food bills has become incredibly important.
According to the man, many Too Good To Go bags often include large amounts of bread and fresh items that would otherwise go mouldy without enough freezer space.
He added: “Before TGTG I managed with the small fridge freezer I had, but a chest freezer means I can buy two bags without wasting anything.”
The man claimed he has purchased more than 1,000 bags over the years, and described this particular haul as “the best one ever”.
Online, other shoppers were equally stunned by the amount of food he managed to get for just £11.
One person commented: “I am so jealous, this is amazing!”
Another wrote: “That’s an insane amount of food for £11.”
Others praised him for making full use of the app instead of letting perfectly edible food end up in bins.
The Too Good To Go app allows users to reserve surplus food bags from nearby cafés, restaurants, and supermarkets before collection. Most bags typically cost between £2 and £5 depending on the retailer and contain food approaching its sell-by date that would otherwise be thrown away.
