Holly Wood, from Manchester, regularly shares her charity shop bargain hauls with 29,000 TikTok followers, and her latest find has gone viral as people share their jealousy in the comments
Everyone loves snapping up a bargain whilst shopping, but not all of us have the dedication to rummage through charity shops in search of one. Yet one lucky woman is over the moon after nabbing a designer coat for a mere £6 in a charity shop – and when she looked it up at home, she was gobsmacked at its real worth.
Thrifty shopper Holly Wood is well-versed in uncovering gems and routinely shares her bargain discoveries with her 29,000 TikTok followers. During a recent expedition hunting for pre-loved treasures, Holly stumbled upon the “perfect” designer piece and shared her excitement online.
Holly, hailing from Manchester, discovered a puffer coat from designer label Peacebird, boasting a cream shade, a fold-over hood feature and front pockets.
Coats on the brand’s website presently sell for between $100 and $400 (£73 and £293).
In a video that’s clocked up 199,000 views, she enthusiastically displays her incredible discovery.
“I honestly cannot believe this coat – it is perfect for the season, and I’m just praying that it fits properly,” said Holly, a psychology coach.
“I tried it on quickly in the store and it felt really good. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for this one because it will be perfect for the rest of the winter season.”
She continued: “This is the great thing about charity shopping. It’s not always the brands that you recognise that are going to be the most rewarding.
“Everything about the coat just screamed premium, but I didn’t recognise the brand.”
Viewers have flooded the comments section with their responses. One user remarked: “Love the coat, just started watching you.”
A second person commented: “Amazing finds. Love it when you unknowingly find a massive bargain – great haul.”
Another user added: “Love them all – but the coat! ! Unreal find!” One more viewer enthused: “Wow, what a bargain. Absolutely love it – totally my style.”
One more user declared: “Great purchases!! Love the coat.”
One more user contributed: “What a find with that coat.”
Reflecting on her triumph, Holly concluded: “I’m actually obsessed with it. So not only did I find a bargain that I loved anyway, but it’s a really, really quality piece that can stay in my wardrobe for years to come.”
This follows another thrifty shopper revealing the single problem that deters her from backing second-hand retailers.
TikTok user @ellenagall shared a clip exposing a persistent problem she’s experienced whilst perusing stores, declaring: “Charity shops are not charity shops anymore. I just went in a local charity shop – the prices in there were absolutely insane.
“There was stuff from Primark for over £10. I can guarantee you it wouldn’t have even been £10 brand new.
“Obviously, I want to support charity, but they need to be convincing people to spend money there. I don’t want to spend money in a charity shop if I can get the item new and cheaper.”
She alleges that the staff pricing items in charity shops are getting it “really off” and proposes this could be contributing to the closure of charity shops across the country.
The woman stated: “Nobody wants to spend money on things that are so expensive and second-hand. I think the people pricing items need to be a bit more aware of what they’re doing.”
