After the UK’s “humiliating” defeat at the Eurovision Song Contest last night, some Brits have called for the country to quit the competition for good. One furious fan wrote on social media: “I don’t see the point in the UK taking part in #Eurovisión anymore
“We pay to keep it going year after year, they humiliate us year after year and never have anything nice to say about us. Let’s finally leave and spend the money on our own concerts & festivals #Eurovisión2026.”
Another believed the other countries are holding a grudge, adding: “I get that our song was s***, but you get the feeling we could put up a band with Elton John, Ed Sheeran, Adele and Coldplay written by Paul McCartney and we’d still get nowhere.”
But others were divided. One suggested that the UK’s guaranteed finalist as a ‘Big Four’ country is our downfall. They said: “I think this year, while I appreciate him trying something different, it just didn’t sit well compared to the other songs. It would have gone out in the semis which is why it scored so comparatively low.”
A fourth fan remained hopeful for a future win, adding: “Sam came second, with a great song. It is possible, love the inclusion and acceptance in Eurovision.”
