The food delivery giantis expanding beyond takeaways with its new Deliveroo Reservations function

Deliveroo has launched a new restaurant booking feature in its app.

The food delivery giantis expanding beyond takeaways with its new Deliveroo Reservations function, which allows customers to browse real-time restaurant availability.

There is also a “notify me” function which can alert users for when a fully booked restaurant receives a last-minute cancellation. The feature, which uses technology from booking platform SevenRooms, is rolling out across London with plans to expand further across the UK later this year.

Deliveroo says hundreds of top London restaurants are now available, including sought-after reservations at Dishoom, Dove, Hide, Kricket, Barrafina, Kolae and Murano.

The platform can handle group bookings of up to eight people. It comes after Deliveroo was snapped up by US firm DoorDash for £2.9billion last year, combining two major food delivery platforms to form a global presence in over 40 countries.

DoorDash expanded into restaurant bookings on its platform in the US late last year.

Suzy McClintock, VP Consumer and New Verticals at Deliveroo said: “This launch is about supporting restaurants to grow in new ways. Whether it’s a Deliveroo order or a reservation in-store, we want to drive discovery, demand and revenue across every channel.

By fully integrating SevenRooms into the Deliveroo app, we’re giving restaurants access to new customers and giving diners an easier way to discover and book some of London’s best tables – all in one place.”

Joel Montaniel, VP, Head of SevenRooms & Co-founder added: “Restaurants thrive on the relationships they build with their guests.

“Bringing reservations into the Deliveroo app gives London restaurants a new way to connect with diners and grow, while making it easy for consumers to discover and book great restaurants.”

In its last trading update, Deliveroo reported a surge in sales and customer orders for the first half of 2025 – but nonetheless swung to a loss ahead of its takeover by DoorDash.

Gross transaction value (GTV) – the total value of transactions on platforms, including things like delivery costs – was £3.8 billion for the first six months of the year.

This was 9% higher than the same period a year ago, at constant currency rates, while GTV was 10% higher in the UK and Ireland. The total number of orders across its global markets was 147 million – 8% higher than last year.

However, Deliveroo revealed it slipped to a loss of £19.2million for the period, compared with a £1.3million profit the prior year. It said this was primarily due to costs relating to its DoorDash takeover.
