Big Business Entrepreneurs (BBE) has called for increased and more targeted support to help small businesses across the North East grow and reach their full potential.

The organisation points to the region’s strong industrial heritage alongside a wealth of untapped entrepreneurial talent, suggesting that the right support could unlock significant economic gains.

Despite having thriving urban hubs and expertise in advanced manufacturing, the North East currently supports only 211,605 businesses, ranking it 11th among the UK’s 12 regions in terms of business population.

Adam Stott, Founder of Big Business Entrepreneurs, said: “These figures underline the need for targeted support to help small firms grow, adopt digital monetisation strategies and build resilience.

“Business coaching, mentoring and strategic skills development could play a transformative role in enabling founders to scale, increase productivity and strengthen the regional economy, particularly in areas where business density remains low.”

According to BBE, structured coaching initiatives can help entrepreneurs address common challenges, improve how they monetise digital platforms and adopt more effective marketing approaches.

Adam Stott added: “Coaching accelerates learning, reduces the time wasted on trial and error, and helps entrepreneurs across the North East scale faster and more efficiently. This region has incredible people and potential – with structured support, thousands more could turn great ideas into thriving businesses.”
