Asda will be opening its doors for the entire bank holiday weekend but on the bank holiday itself, some of its stores will be adjusting their opening hours
As with all bank holidays, supermarkets often adjust their opening hours. But when exactly will Asda be open this weekend?
There are two bank holidays in May and the early May bank holiday always falls on the first Monday of the month. This year, that means the first bank holiday falls on Monday, May 6. On bank holidays, some businesses close for the day, public transport often runs on a reduced schedule, and there is no postal service. Over recent years, shops and hospitality venues have chosen to remain open, with shops often following different trading hours than normal – and this does include supermarkets.
Asda will be opening its doors for the entire bank holiday weekend but on the bank holiday itself, some of its stores will be adjusting their opening hours. It does vary from store to store, so before you head down to your local Asda, you should check the supermarket’s online checker tool for exact timings.
The opening hours for Saturday, and Sunday will remain the same as usual. Most stores usually open between 6am or 7am and close at between 10pm and midnight. On Sunday, opening hours are more condensed with the larger Asda superstores only opening for only six hours, from either 10am or 11am, until 4pm or 5pm.
In Scotland, stores are allowed to open for much longer due to different trading rules. On Monday, May 6, most of the larger Asda stores will be open as usual – this means they could open as early as 6am and close as late as midnight.
The chain’s smaller convenience stores, Asda Express, are normally open for 24 hours even on Sundays. The Mirror has asked Asda whether this will remain the same on the early May bank holiday. We will update this article when we know more. It should also be noted that all Scottish Asda stores will run under normal trading hours on the bank holiday Monday.
