South Wales Police said firearms officers were scrambled to the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend as the building was put in a lockdown during the incident, with patients unable to enter or leave

Armed police descneded on a hospital this afternoon amid reports of an ongoing incident.

The Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend was placed into a lockdown during the incident, witnesses said, as patients claimed they were told that no one was allowed to enter or exit the hospital.

South Wales Police said firearms officers were sent to the scene shortly before 1.30pm to reports of threats made towards a person in the building.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making a false report, police said.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: “Officers were called to the Princess of Wales hospital at 1.20pm on Thursday (March 19) to reports of threats made towards a person in the building.

“Firearms officers attended and, following enquiries, a man aged 23 has been arrested on suspicion of making a false report.”
