Carl Crowther and his family have been left heartbroken after an Amazon delivery driver allegedly walked up to their home and scooped up their beloved cat Nora

A family has been left “devastated” after an Amazon delivery driver allegedly stole their cat from the doorstep of their home.

The delivery driver, dressed in a yellow hi-vis, is seen on the doorbell footage casually walking up to the front door of the house, near Halifax, on Sunday afternoon. Crouching down, the animal’s family claim the man then scooped up the cat with one hand before walking off.

Carl Crowther says his family have been left heartbroken by the incident, which happened at around 2:30pm on Sunday, January 18. The cat owner says the delivery driver, who was working for Amazon at the time, “took a shine” to the pet, called Nora, while delivering a parcel.

Mr Crowther claims the delivery driver brazenly walked off after scooping Nora into his arms. The animal was then allegedly put in the delivery driver’s vehicle.

“As a family, we were really worried as she always stays very close to home,” Mr Crowther told YorkshireLive. “This morning, after she’d been missing since yesterday lunch, for some reason I looked at the cameras to see if she’d been about over the late afternoon/evening.

“We were devastated when we saw the driver lingering about waiting to seize his opportunity. It was total shock and disbelief when he picked her up and shoved her into his car. This was also seen from my neighbour’s camera. Poor thing is on medication and has a heart murmur.”

The incident has been reported to Amazon and West Yorkshire Police, with Mr Crowther also providing both the doorbell footage and additional images. Mr Crowther is sharing the footage in the hope it will help his family be reunited with Nora.

Mr Crowther claims that Amazon offered him money, which “isn’t any good at this stage”. A spokesperson for the company told YorkshireLive this was not the case and said the family has been referred to insurance protocol instead.

Amazon is investigating the incident and has been in direct contact with Mr Crowther and the police. The delivery driver is not directly employed by Amazon but by a subsidiary, it said.

West Yorkshire Police have been contacted for comment.
