Amanda Knox has written to the notorious ex-nurse and baby murderer Lucy Letby, after claiming to investigate her case and calling it an “eye-opening experience”

Amanda Knox reveals she’s reached out to Lucy Letby

Amanda Knox has reached out to ex-nurse Lucy Letby – who is currently serving life for murdering seven babies – in jail.

Amanda, who was cleared of killing her room-mate Meredith Kercher in a case that shocked the world, has written to Letby in prison and has even sent her a copy of her book. She said she would like to meet or speak to Letby. Amanda and her husband Chris are currently working on a podcast about Letby.

She claimed it had been an “eye-opening experience” to investigate the nurse’s case. And she even revealed the couple had travelled from London to Chester to investigate further and interview people connected to the case. As well as writing to Letby, Amanda has also written to Letby’s parents.

Amanda, 38, said: “It’s been a very interesting, eye opening experience to investigate her case. Chris and I are producing a podcast series about the case. It’s called ‘Doubt – the case of Lucy Letby’. It’s a very, very in-depth investigation into this case.

Amanda Knox talks about crime motive

“It’s an ongoing process. There’s going to be at least 13 episodes. But no I have not spoken to her personally. I did send her a copy of my book. I wrote her a letter. I’ve not talked to her personally. “The focus of the podcast is not about her – it’s about the facts of the case which I think it really important.”

She added: “I like to remind people that I was an indirect victim of crime before I became a victim of the criminal justice system. I’m absolutely invested in getting the right people held accountable because I know so much about the criminal legal system. I actually might be a very valuable and fair juror.”

Amanda was speaking at an event to promote her documentary “Mouth of the Wolf” at the Greenwich Picturehouse in south East London. She was asked by members of the audience about relationship with Letby.

Letby, a former neonatal nurse, is serving 15 whole-life sentences for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016.

Her case has sparked controversy with several high profile calls for a new inquiry with claims she is innocent. But she has lost attempts to appeal her convictions, with a Court of Appeal dismissing her case on all grounds in May 2024.

Amanda revealed she was working on an investigative podcast about Letby earlier this year. She said: “I’m excited to share with you something I’ve been working on for two years now. Please check out my new podcast series, Doubt: The Case of Lucy Letby, from @iHeartRadio. It’s available now, wherever you get your podcasts.”

“Doubt takes an unflinching look at a case that stunned the United Kingdom and the world: the conviction of neonatal nurse Lucy Letby for the murder of seven premature babies and the attempted murder of seven more.”

Knox said she was struck by the way Letby was portrayed during and after the trial. “When I saw how Letby was being cast as evil by the British press, I felt that uncomfortable shock of recognition,” she added.

“The trial, conviction, and unprecedented sentencing ignited a national firestorm. Public anger was swift and fierce. The story seemed to resolve into certainty.

“But I know personally how fragile that kind of certainty can be. And how factors beyond the evidence can distort our thinking and incentivise people to look for scapegoats instead of the truth.”
