Boots has launched an affordable Arabian-inspired fragrance brand Jawhara, with five unisex scents priced at just £14.99 each – and shoppers are already raving that they have ‘good sillage and longevity’
Fragrance enthusiasts will undoubtedly be making a beeline for Boots to try a new collection of under-£15 perfumes that customers claim ‘smell expensive’. The high street giant has unveiled a fresh global beauty brand with the arrival of Jawhara – an Arabian-inspired fragrance house that’s entirely unisex and, according to feedback, ‘perfect for a night out’.
Arriving online and in select branches last week, the timing of this collection couldn’t be more ideal. With Father’s Day and summer getaways fast approaching, the range is brilliantly positioned for gift-giving or indulging yourself in something that feels luxurious without the designer cost.
Jawhara, meaning ‘jewel’, draws inspiration from the richness of traditional Arabic perfumery, celebrated for its powerful combinations of oud, amber and musk . Yet rather than feeling heavy or overwhelming, these fragrances have been reinterpreted for daily use.
The collection comprises five distinctive scents, each boasting its own character and colour-coordinated bottle to match. And at £14.99 for 100ml, it represents remarkably good value for this calibre of fragrance.
First up is Sultan Rose, a contemporary floral featuring saffron, rose, peony and vanilla incense for a powdery, refined finish. On Amazon, where the perfumes are also stocked, one delighted customer commented: “I loved this perfume. I wanted exactly a rose smell, but it also has a nice touch of bakhoor smell, which just smells expensive.”
Sultan Rose Unisex Eau de Parfum 100ml
This unisex perfume opens with warm saffron accord and Akigalawood, which lead to an elegant heart of majestic rose accord and powdery peony. A delicate base of vanilla incense adds a subtle sweetness, reminiscent of the gentle breeze of an Arabian rose garden.
Golden Nectar, meanwhile, combines bergamot, pear and white florals with musk and vetiver. For those with a sweet tooth, Sweet Dates is a lusciously indulgent option, featuring notes of vanilla, raspberry and caramelised amber.
One shopper said: “Fantastic fragrance considering the price, the raspberry note is magnificent. Good sillage and longevity, if you like a sweet fragrance, this is a great addition to your collection.”
Another added: “Sweet Dates does exactly what it says. Rich, juicy dates, with notes of caramel and Amber. Whilst a unisex fragrance, it’s ever so slightly masculine leaning. Confident ladies could pull this off with ease.
“It’s a very rich, sexy scent. On my skin, I find it has a nice ‘after shower’ fresh undertone. It’s not sticky and cloying either. Getting around 8-9 hours with this, most of which, around five hours, it’s projecting nicely, producing a lingering sillage.”
The same reviewer did point out that ‘the bottles and caps are very cheap feeling.’ Though at £14.99 a bottle, it’s perhaps unsurprising that the packaging doesn’t quite match the premium feel of pricier brands.
Although the range is positioned as unisex, Oud Velvet and Amberwood Nomad skew towards more traditionally masculine territory. The former is a deep, woody-amber fragrance with saffron, oud and creamy vanilla, with shoppers saying it’s ‘long lasting and perfect for a night out’. Amberwood Nomad delivers an aromatic blend of cardamom, myrrh and cedarwood, rounded off with a smooth ambery base.
The arrival of Jawhara comes at a time when British consumers are increasingly discovering and welcoming global influences, from Korean skincare to Middle Eastern ingredients such as oud. However, Jawhara isn’t the sole Arabian-inspired fragrance brand available. Most notably, there’s Huda and Mona Kattan’s perfume label Kayali, which features remarkably similar bottle designs to those of Jawhara.
Kayali is celebrated for its ‘oudy, moody, fresh and fruity fragrances that smell good enough to eat’. Among their bestselling scents are Sweet Peach, Freedom Musk Santal and Oudgasm Cafe Oud. Their miniature bottles begin at £28 for 10ml, while their 100ml bottles typically retail at around £110.
At JustMyLook , this Elysia Vanilla Eau De Parfum 100ml has been reduced to £14.99, down from £40. Created by Fragrance World, a prominent United Arab Emirates-based perfume house, the fragrance showcases creamy vanilla with an elegant floral and woody finish.
For those who’ve been intrigued by Arabian fragrances but weren’t sure where to begin, or have been tempted by Kayali but deterred by the cost, Jawhara provides an approachable introduction to the perfume category. Whether you’re selecting a considerate Father’s Day present or simply updating your own fragrance collection for summer, this is one launch that’s definitely worth exploring .
