Wear a face mask for two hours and get a full bottle of collagen into your skin? Yep, I’m up for that.
I should start by saying I LOVE a face mask. A beauty treatment that makes a noticeable different and all I have to do is whack it on my face while I watch TV? That’s my kind of effort-to-results ratio. Plus you get to look like a horror movie while you’re wearing it, which I think is a great thing.
So when I heard about the new masks from Mediheal – one of the big brands in Korean skincare innovations – I was eager to give them a go. Mediheal are famous for their award-winning masks, loved by customers, celebrities and industry professionals. But these are something new. Rather than fabric sheets soaked in serum, the masks are actually made from gel, infused with the active ingredients. Apply it to your face, wait two hours, and the ingredients absorb – right into your skin.
There are two new masks in the range:
- For a hit of hydration, the Hyper Hyaluronate Mask, £38 for a pack of 10, promises long lasting hydration and a glass skin effect. The claim is that your skin can absorb a full bottle of hyaluronic acid in two hours.
- For serious anti-ageing, the Hyper Collagen Low Molecular Liposome Mask, also £38 for a pack of 10, promises to minimise pores, refine skin texture and boost elasticity, plumpness and radiance. As with the mask above, this one claims your skin can absorb a full bottle of collagen in two hours with this mask. This is the one I decided to try.
I tried Trinny London’s new Miracle Blur product and it’s just as good as they promised
What it’s like to wear
Because this is a gel mask rather than fabric, the texture is a little different. Imagine, if you will, a bowl of custard that has formed a skin over the top. (Now try to rid yourself of that vision before you apply the mask to you skin, because it will spoil to soothing effect). The gel holds together well, but if you’re too rough you can tear it.
When you first apply it’s very slippery and thick feeling. It comes in two parts with sections over the eyes and mouth which you can pop out if you want to wear during the day while you’re doing other things, or leave in if you’re wearing overnight. It feels cool, soothing and rather lovely, and applies well to the face – better, I would say, than a fabric mask, and more comfortably.
Then you wear it for TWO HOURS. The instructions say 30 minutes to two hours, until the mask changes from from opaque to clear. I’d say this is two hours minimum, and some people where them overnight – though I can’t imagine how you’d do this without wrecking your sheets. It was very nice for the first hour and a half. By the end, I was pretty keen to get my normal face back.
Hyper Collagen Low Molecular Liposome Mask – the results
Of the many face masks I’ve tried, Hyper Collagen Low Molecular Liposome Mask is one of my favourites ever. I find a lot of masks will leave you feeling like you’ve had an instant pep, and even with a visible difference to the skin. What I loved with this one is that my face still felt plumper and pepped, even 24 hours after I’d done the mask. I don’t think it had a huge effect on pores – annoying as that’s one of the effects I was hoping for – but the fine lines on my face were smoothed out and softened.
I do think £38 feel like quite a lot to drop on a 10-use product but if you think of it as £3.80 per mask, I feel like the results make it a good investment. Overall, I’d really recommend this product.
