Having tried more than a dozen different drink bottles, there’s only one I’d risk putting in my laptop bag and currently shoppers can save 85% on its usual price
Without wishing to sound out of touch, nothing quite encapsulates modern life like the sight of everyone having a water bottle in hand wherever they go like they’re off out on a full-scale expedition. I even receive gentle reminder messages on the class chat when my children forget to bring theirs to school, highlighting just how far we’ve come from my own childhood where, barring a sip from the playground water fountain if you were lucky, you risked near-dehydration between breakfast and dinner.
Nowadays we’re all well aware of the significance of staying hydrated for concentration and overall wellbeing regardless of age and most of us carry a drinks bottle whether heading to work, the gym, or simply out and about. Even so, I was taken aback to discover during a recent clear-out that our family of four had accumulated more than a dozen bottles between us over the years – ranging from bargain-basement to premium and, reflecting just how lucrative the drinks bottle industry has become, featuring an array of different spouts, straws, clips and locks suitable for both hot and cold beverages.
However, despite the size of my collection, there’s only one water bottle I’d confidently place in my laptop bag, safe in the knowledge it wouldn’t result in a spillage and not only is it currently discounted in a spring sale but, thanks to a double deal stack, there’s a way to pick it up for £4.47 excluding postage. The popular Ninja Thirsti is a versatile drinks bottle suitable for hot, cold and fizzy beverages. It’s available in two sizes, with the 530ml bottle ordinarily retailing at £29.99, while the larger 700ml version carries a full price tag of £34.99.
Ninja has slashed the price of both bottles in several of its most popular colours to £19.99 and £24.99 respectively as part of its spring sale, but savvy shoppers have discovered a way to save even further by combining deals with money-saving website TopCashback. New members who sign up for free on the site receive a £15 bonus when they complete their first qualifying purchase, plus cashback on the amount spent, reports Glasgow Live.
This means it’s possible to effectively pick up the 530ml bottle for just £4.47 once the bonus and cashback on the sale price has been applied — a whopping 85% off the standard retail price. Shoppers should note there is also a £3.50 delivery charge.
While Ninja produces a wide range of high-tech gadgets, for my money the drinks bottle stands out as one of the brand’s finest offerings. It’s sleek in design, surprisingly lightweight when full, and features a sturdy loop that allows it to be clipped to the outside of a bag rather than stowed inside, depending on what else you’re carrying.
It’s also dishwasher safe and suitable for both hot and cold drinks, though it lends itself particularly well to keeping water on hand throughout the day. The principal advantage of the Thirsti and, in my view, its unique selling point is the twisting lid mechanism that guarantees the bottle closes completely and securely.
While other bottles rely on catches or clips to remain shut, there’s always the possibility of them being knocked and subsequently leaking. The Thirsti lid fastens and locks entirely and cannot be accidentally opened. While this means some users may find it a bit more challenging to open quickly in comparison to other bottles, but for me the reassurance that the contents of my bag won’t be given a surprise wash while I’m out and about is absolutely worth it
.
To be fair, the Thirsti is not the only bottle in the cupboard that is worthy of a spot and getting daily use. While the cost of my daughter’s much-loved Stanley Quencher even purchased in the sale was a bit more than I’d like to pay, she loves it and is noticeably drinking more water since she got it and it’s easily cleaned. Meanwhile, my husband swears by his eco-friendly and versatile Ocean Bottle and my son loves his Amazon pick, a Super Sparrow option he favoured because it was orange but which I chose because it was BPA free, lightweight when full and wouldn’t break the bank if he lost it and it needed replacing for the third time this school year.
However, for me the Thirsti is the best bottle I’ve ever owned and, since acquiring it, I’ve gifted several more to others. It feels like the ideal combination of functionality and style. The Thirsti is also available in a rainbow of colours to suit every taste, with the insulated bottles now available in eleven shades ranging from timeless black, white and grey to vibrant tropical blue, soft pastel mint green and a subtle, pale lavender. According to Ninja’s own testing, the triple-layered insulation of the BPA-free bottle keeps beverages cold for up to 24 hours or warm for eight. Its sleek inner design also helps maintain the fizz in carbonated drinks for hours on end.
I’m not the only fan either, with shoppers currently awarding it an impressive average of 4.6 stars out of 5 based on 700 reviews on the Ninja website. Meanwhile an impressive 90% of those reviewers stating they would recommend the product to a friend.
That said, proving that no product is universally perfect, one four-star reviewer took issue with the lid, commenting: “Great at keeping drinks cool and fizzy. Good capacity. The only room for improvement is to the lid, which would be more convenient if it was quick release rather than screw off.”
