A number of popular children’s toys pose a serious health risk
A range of popular toys sold in major UK stores including Smyth’s, The Entertainer, Marks and Spencer, Tesco, Asda and Amazon have been urgently recalled. The product pose a serious health risk as they may contain asbestos.
As a result, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a series of recall notices. Anyone with the children’s toys has been urged to stop using them immediately and dispose of them safely.
Asbestos is a banned substance because even at low levels, it can pose a health risk. The OPSS has laid out disposal instructions for anyone with the toys to follow and urged customers to seek a refund.
Stretcherz Toys
Several HTI Toys Stretcherz Toys have been recalled from customers and withdrawn from sale in recent weeks. They are described as stretch toys filled with sand-like material.
The toys were sold at a vast range of stores including Aldi, Argos, Asda, B&M, Early Learning Centre, The Entertainer, Home Bargains, Matalan, Poundland, Primark, Smyths Toys, Tesco, TK Maxx/Homesense, and The Works.
Different variations of Stretcherz toys were sold at the retailers.

Sand Art activity kit
Colour Day’s Sand Art activity kit has been recalled and is described as a craft toy containing 10 bags of coloured sand, 10 bottles, and tools. The toys were sold on Amazon and eBay.
The online marketplaces have removed the listings, and anyone with the product has been urged to stop using it straight away.
Out To Impress Sand Art Creations
Addo Play Limited’s Out To Impress Sand Art Creations has been recalled due to the asbestos risk. It is a sand art kit with multiple colours of play sand and plastic bottles.
The product was sold by Early Learning Centre, The Entertainer, Tesco, Matalan and M&S stores and websites between August 2023 and February 2026.
The toy has the item code: 318-19149-B. Customers must stop using the toy and request a refund.
What to do if you have an affected toy
The OPSS urge anyone with the items to stop using them immediately. It added: “If the sand is still in its packaging, place in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double tape it securely, label it clearly and store in a secure location out of the reach of children.
“If the sand has been used, clean up sites where the product was used using wet cloths to avoid generating dust. Wear gloves and a mask. Double bag the sand, gloves, mask and cloths. “
The OPSS continued: “Keep children and other people away from areas where the sand has been used until the area has been cleaned. Dispose of the product in your general household waste.”
The Entertainer request customers not to return the item to their stores, and instead dispose of them following the OPSS instructions.
