- Ian Huntley remains in a serious condition after being brutally attacked with a metal bar by a fellow inmate at HMP Frankland.
- The Soham child killer’s mother, Lynda Richards, 71, made a secret 175-mile journey from Lincolnshire to visit her son in hospital. Sources claim she told friends “part of me hopes he passes away” after seeing his condition.
- The 52-year-old was battered around the head during a workshop at the prison and rushed to hospital with severe brain injuries. He was reportedly given just a 5 per cent chance of surviving the Thursday morning attack.
- Richards was escorted to the hospital wing by prison staff while her son remains under armed police guard. A source said she “couldn’t recognise her own son” after the brutal assault.
- The source revealed: “He’s been attacked on so many occasions and she now thinks it might be better if he didn’t pull through.” They added that Richards “can’t be at peace until it’s all over – and it won’t be over until he’s gone”.
- Triple killer Anthony Russell has been named as the prime suspect in the attack, though authorities haven’t confirmed his identity. The suspect allegedly yelled “I’ve killed him” as prison staff led him away.
- Huntley, who murdered 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham in 2002, had been paranoid about being targeted and feared being poisoned.
