A bargain-hunting mum who loves scouring charity shops for designer finds has shared her best discovery yet.
If you’re passionate about shopping but keen to keep costs down, charity shops are the answer. Britain’s high streets are brimming with them, all offering unique clothing, accessories, homeware, books and much more.
It’s also a far more mindful approach to shopping, rehoming items that might otherwise be thrown away, whilst raising funds for worthy causes. Nothing beats the thrill of findnig a real bargain amongst the rails, but one woman on social media has taken things to another level.
During a recent charity shop crawl, TikToker Thrifting With Em stumbled upon an item worth thousands of pounds and paid a fraction of its value.
Emily, a bargain-hunting mum who dedicates her time to seeking out great deals and reselling them, shared her “best charity shop find ever” in a TikTok video that has racked up more than 278k views to date, reports the Express.
As she headed into Mercy in Action in Saltford, Bristol, she said: “I can’t believe what I found in this charity shop today. It’s probably the best find I’ve ever had since I started reselling.”
Successful charity shopping requires patience and persistence before striking gold. Emily managed to do exactly that — uncovering a Hermes two-piece, valued at £2,900, bearing just an £8.50 price tag.
Holding it up to the camera, she said: “I know it’s only January but this is my find of the year. I know it’s an acquired taste, but I had to pick it up.”
The two-piece outfit is made from a knitted material featuring a dark check pattern. It’s made up of a button-up long-sleeved cardigan with a polo neck top designed to be worn beneath it.
Commenters were stunned, with some doubting whether it was an authentic discovery. Emily clarified that the outfit was vintage and two decades old, which accounted for the faded label.
One person said: “Is that Hermes real though? The label looks a bit shabby.” Another argued: “It is real, label is from Jean Paul Gaultier era at Hermes.”
Someone else in the comments said: “That is such an amazing find! What a great little shop.”
Another wrote: “Omg that Hermes set is lovely, great find.”
This was just one of numerous bargains that Emily discovered in this specific charity shop. She also found a pair of Peleton cycling shoes for £15, when they sell for £120.
She also picked up a men’s Barbour wax jacket for £25 – an remarkable 10% of the cost of a brand new one. Labels including Ugg, Harrods, Anthropologie and Monsoon also appeared in this haul, so next time you fancy purchasing a new outfit but don’t want to spend hundreds of pounds, it might be worthwhile visiting your local charity shop.
