Paul Boomer, 53, and his brother Kyle, 33, were both seriously injured in an alleged machete attack at Paul’s Blyth home, with Kyle’s hand cut almost all the round
Battered, stitched up and bruised, this is the aftermath of a man’s alleged encounter with a machete. Today, Paul Boomer has unveiled the injuries he sustained during the alleged assault, which he claims also resulted in his brother crying out for help, exclaiming “they’ve cut my hand off”.
The 53 year old recalls being upstairs at home, engrossed in television with his partner, when he heard his younger brother Kyle – who had been lodging with him – shout from the ground floor. Upon rushing to the living room, Paul alleges he was met by two men and subsequently attacked multiple times with a large blade.
Meanwhile, 33 year old Kyle reported holding his severely wounded hand, which he claimed had been sliced nearly all the way around.
Following the incident, which took place at Paul’s Twentieth Avenue residence in Blyth last week, police have detained a 32 year old male on suspicion of GBH with intent.
Paul shared: “I work in IT. I get up at 7am, I go to work, I come home and have my tea and I’m in bed by 9.30pm. This isn’t my world.”, reports Chronicle Live.
Paul was in his room with his girlfriend Debra Clark when the shocking events unfolded just past 8pm on February 16. Kyle, who earns a living as a delivery driver and has been residing with Paul, was downstairs in the living room.
“I was sitting upstairs with my girlfriend watching television. We heard the door but didn’t think anything of it,” Paul recounted. “Then I heard my brother scream; ‘They have cut my hand off’.”
Upon descending the stairs, Paul was confronted by two intruders in his home, one brandishing a machete, before the alleged assault took place and the men scarpered.
Debra, who bore witness to the attack on her partner, dialled for an ambulance and endeavoured to assist Kyle by applying a towel to his wounded hand.
“He thought his hand was severed because the bottom half was dangling,” Paul recounted. “Debra was trying to keep Kyle’s hand attached. She had a towel wrapped around it.”
Both Paul and Kyle were rushed to hospital where Paul received stitches for facial and back injuries before being released. Kyle, however, remained hospitalised after his brother’s discharge.
“He’s got barely any sensation in his hand,” revealed Paul. “He’s extremely fortunate not to have lost it. It did appear as though they had amputated it.”
The police are now urging any witnesses to come forward.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police stated: “At about 8.15pm on Monday, February 16, we received a report of a disturbance at an address in the Twentieth Avenue area of Blyth in Northumberland. Emergency services attended where it was discovered two men had sustained injuries consistent with having been inflicted by a bladed weapon.
“Both men, aged in their 30s and 50s, were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening. They have since been discharged.
“An investigation was launched and a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. He has since been released on police bail. Whilst enquiries are at an early stage, it is believed that those involved were known to one another.
“Enquiries remain ongoing on anyone with information is asked to get in touch.”
