Police rushed to High Storrs School in Sheffield where pupils were told to remain inside as it went into lockdown, while parents were told to not visit the premises
Pupils at a UK school had to go into lockdown after “threats” were made over the phone.
Police rushed to High Storrs School in Sheffield today following the call, and parents were given the worrying news that pupils would remain inside during lunch while the school carried out safety measures.
Parents of kids at the secondary school were first told of an unspecified incident and were asked not to speculate on social media, but instead “trust us to manage the situation”.
The email in full sent at 12:50pm read: “Some of you may be aware from contact with your children that we are currently managing a situation in school by keeping students on site for lunchtime today.

“We will update you when we have any further information. Please trust us to manage the situation at this time and do not telephone or visit the school. We also ask that students and families avoid speculation and stay off social media.”
And once safety checks were completed, the restrictions were lifted and lessons continued as normal, although after school clubs were cancelled, reported YorkshireLive.
A second email sent at 2:15pm, reported The Star, read: “Further to our previous emails related to the situation we are managing in school at the moment, we would like to reassure you that students are in their afternoon lessons as normal.
“After school-clubs will not be running today and all students will be dismissed at the end of the school day. We are sorry that we cannot share more at this time, but will update families further as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and support.”
A spokesperson for the Sheffield South West neighbourhood policing team clarified what happened, saying threats had been made by phone and an investigation is underway into the incident.
They said: “We were called today at 12.15pm to reports of a man calling High Storrs School in Sheffield and making threats over the phone.
“We understand that this will be concerning for parents, pupils and staff, and reassure you that an investigation is underway however there is currently no evidence to suggest the threats are genuine.
“Enquiries are ongoing and we are working closely with the school and local authority. If you see officers in the area, please do not be alarmed, they are there to help so please speak to them if you have any concerns.”
