A teen died following a collision between a minibus and a car in Tadcaster, police said – a woman who was driving a Hyundai has been arrested in connection with the investigation

A teenage girl has tragically died in a minibus crash in which a second girl was injured and rushed to the hospital.

North Yorkshire Police rushed to Tadcaster this afternoon after a minibus, carrying nine passengers aged 16 to 18, crashed with a Hyundai car. The teenager died at the scene. The force said another girl was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The police added that the other passengers and the driver of the minibus have received treatment at the hospital for minor injuries.

The driver of the car has been arrested in connection with the investigation, YorkshireLive reports. Toulston Lane remains closed to traffic as police enquiries continue, officers said, urging anyone with information on the incident to get in touch.

A police spokesperson said: “North Yorkshire Police is investigating the tragic death of a teenage girl who was a passenger in a minibus that was in a collision with a car at Tadcaster. The incident happened on Toulston Lane – at the junction with Rudgate – at around 12.28pm on Monday (1 December 2025).

“The white Mercedes Sprinter minibus was heading towards Sherburn and the light-coloured Hyundai i10 car entered Toulston Lane from Rudgate. The minibus was carrying nine passengers aged 16 to 18.

“The girl tragically died at the scene. Another teenage girl was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

“The other passengers, and the man driving the minibus, have received treatment at hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old woman, has been arrested in connection with the investigation.

“Toulston Lane remains closed to traffic as police enquiries continue. We are appealing for any witnesses or motorists with relevant dashcam footage to come forward as soon as possible.

“If you can help, please email the Major Collision Investigation Team at [email protected] or call them on 101. Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or by making an online report. Please quote reference number 12250226227 when providing details.”
