Zara McDermott is known for her always-flawless skin, and she credits Medik8’s ultra-hydrating serum for how good it looks after revealing she’s used it for more than 6 years
When it comes to beauty recommendations, we’re always more than happy to trust Zara McDermott’s suggestions. The documentary maker and former Lover Island star is known for her great skincare and makeup picks, and her latest one is no exception.
Zara recently shared some of her latest beauty product restocks, which included Medik8’s Hydr8 B5 Intense Serum which she says is responsible for her glowing skin. Zara said: “One of the best hyaluronic acids you will ever use. I’ve used this for six years now. I honestly do credit this so much for my skin and how it looks now. I started using it before Covid I think? And I’m still going!”

The Hydr8 B5 Intense Serum is one of Medik8’s best-sellers, helping to replenish and boost your skin’s natural moisture levels, smooth out texture and plump up your skin in as little as 24 hours. It’s non-sticky, and is packed with superfood antioxidants and naturally moisturising ingredients which focus on boosting how hydrated your skin is.
There are multiple different weights of hyaluronic acid within the Hydr8 B5 Intense Serum which mean it penetrates multiple layers of your skin, helping improve moisture and plumping from deep within your skin. It has a firming effect, and actually helps to restore lost volume in your skin long term.
Unlike some other skincare products which are better suited to certain times of the year, the Hydr8 B5 Intense Serum can be used in all climates any situations, whether it’s during the cold, drying winter weather or when dealing with the stuffy recycled air on flights. However, like many Medik8 products it does come with a slightly steep price tag, costing £60 for a full-size 30ml bottle.
If you’re looking for something a little less expensive, Vichy’s Mineral 89 Hyaluronic Acid Booster Serum is on sale down from £28 to £21. It strengthens the skin’s barrier function and protects against pollution, and contains Volcanic Mineralizing Water which hydrates and nourishes your skin.
Another great affordable alternative is the Anua PDRN Hyaluronic Acid Capsule 100 Serum which is just £20 for 30ml. It contains a blend of hyaluronic acid and salmon DNA which plumps up fine lines and boosts elasticity, and gives skin a glass-like glow.
However Medik8 shoppers have praised the Hydr8 B5 Intense Serum, rating it 4.9 out of five stars and racking up more than 2000 reviews. One said: “Gentle texture. Does not leave a sticky film. Absorbs quickly. Brightens the skin. I am very satisfied.”
Whilst another agreed: “My face felt hydrated, its not greasy or oily dries fast I apply B5 and apply my foundation straight after made my makeup smoother and my skin glowing.”
Some were less impressed, with one saying: “I think this is a MID products compare to others from Medik8. I didnt see lots of improvement and I finished all the bottle. I think you can find better hydration serums for less less money.”
However another praised the Hydr8 B5 Intense Serum saying: “The holy grail. Cannot give it enough starts. Beautiful finish on my combination skin and glow results every time. Much more confident going out with no make up.”
