A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of murder says Norfolk Police after a woman was killed in a street in Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich, on Saturday night

A woman in her 40s has been killed in a street with a man, believed to know her, arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police and other emergency services rushed to the scene just before 11.45pm on Saturday in Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich, following reports of a woman injured in the street. The woman was declared dead at the scene at Catherine Gardens and a man in his 60s was arrested in the early hours of today in Dereham Road and is currently being held in custody, said Norfolk Police.

The force said an investigation is underway with detectives working at the two locations were there is a “seal” in place while Yarmouth Road is closed from the junction with Pound Lane to the junction with School Avenue while inquiries are carried out.

Det Supt Stacey Murray, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are in the early stages of this investigation working to establish the sequence of events which led to the woman’s death.

“However, we do believe this to be an incident in which both parties were known to each other. We would urge anyone with information that could help the investigation, whether it concerns the incident itself or the events leading up to it, to get in touch.”

Here is the full statement from the police who would like to hear from anyone with information, it reads: “A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was fatally injured in Thorpe St Andrew.
