A savvy thrifter has shared her incredible charity shop finds after spending just £20, proving you don’t need a fortune to bag brilliant bargains

Savvy shopper shows what bargains you can get for £20 at charity shop

With the cost of everything from footwear to baked goods soaring, many Brits are turning their attention to local charity shops in pursuit of a steal.

It’s not merely the persistent cost-of-living squeeze, but a push towards greater sustainability that’s fuelling the rising appeal of “thrifting.” However, this growing movement has pushed charity shop prices upwards and heightened rivalry for goods.

Some shoppers prove more adept – or perhaps fortunate – than others, though. Sharp-eyed content creator Kavita Donkersley, who documents her charity shop expeditions on SheWearsFashion, is on hand to offer some essential guidance on maximising our tight budgets.

In one of her latest clips, Kavita reveals precisely what £20 can secure in a charity shop when you’ve got a nose for value.

The highlight that grabbed her attention was an almost-pristine stylish Revival trench coat: “I googled it and it goes for over £70 online, so only £10, it was an absolute bargain.”

A 50p hardback of Sally Rooney’s bestselling Normal People, which appeared to be in immaculate condition, was an easy decision for Kavita, who mentioned she’d been keen to read it for ages, and a pair of Adidas Samba replicas also made it into the haul. “They were my size, and super-comfy and they were only £4, so I grabbed them,” she revealed.

She also discovered a quirky star-shaped brooch, and while Kavita confessed she’s “not normally a brooch fan”, it represented “an absolute steal” at merely 50p, prompting her to include it in her collection.

She was equally drawn to a silver-toned handbag priced at the bargain rate of only £2, which she promptly “snapped it up”.

Despite being typically a shrewd bargain-seeker who recognises the worth of her charity shop discoveries, Kavita acknowledged she had “no clue” regarding the intended function of the ring-shaped glass ornament she purchased.

Though it might conceivably have formed part of a light fitting, there were no accompanying fittings to attach it to wiring or a base. However, at only £3, it brought Kavita to her intended £20 budget.

She suggests, hopefully, that the enigmatic piece could become “a great DIY project.” While this trip produced a substantial collection, it wasn’t necessarily Kavita’s most impressive charity shop find.

On another occasion documented on her channel, she describes uncovering a pair of block-heeled red shoes – sold at Mango for approximately £50, which she secured for merely £6.

Kavita’s complete £20 charity shop haul

  • Normal People hardback – 50p
  • Adidas-style trainers – £4
  • Trenchcoat – £10
  • Star brooch – 50p
  • Handbag – £2
  • Mystery item – £3
