‘The Simple App gives me advice. It says your portion size should be the size of your palm and it also teaches me to track things’
When it comes to weight loss, diet culture and focusing on health, people are often pushed to try extreme and all-or-nothing mindsets to get results. Now however, there is an app that users are finding realistic, easy to use and it still offers them the same results.
That is what happened for 68-year-old Beth Hilgartner after she found herself struggling with her weight on and off for years. “I’ve tried the restrictive diets and I can lose a few pounds. Then I stop the restrictive diet and I gain it all back,” she explained.
After going to a routine check up with her doctor in June of 2024, Beth said she was alarmed as her doctor told her her blood levels had reached an unhealthy level along with her cholesterol and blood glucose. “I had a really visceral reaction that surprised me,” she said. After hearing her options were either to go on medication or make lifestyle choices and lose weight – 15 to 20 pounds – Beth went home to find a solution online.
“I went online to look for a weight loss program and I found something that was not simple to do. It was another one of those restrictive diets where you have things you can eat, things you can’t and you have to weigh everything. I did that for a while and lost a few pounds, but I could see it was going to be a really vicious slog.” After bumping into a friend who suggested intermittent fasting, Beth went back online and came across the Simple App.
Simple is an AI coaching app designed to offer personalised daily workouts, science backed coaching and nutrition analysis, to help people shed the pounds and feel healthier. Simple says it is “reshaping the science behind weight loss, standing as an innovative alternative to the restrictive and ineffective diet industry”.
The Simple App is available here

Now, others who are interested can use the code REACH to save 80% off Simple Weight Loss plans and there is a 2 for 1 offer that means once you subscribe, you can share a simple premium with a person of choice at no added cost.
“I thought I will try Simple, drink Black coffee and do this eating window concept for three weeks and then I’ll figure out whether this is sustainable or not,” Beth said. After this, she was losing a pound a week and overall lost 50 pounds (3 stone and 8 lb/22kg) from using Simple.
Not only does the app include an intermittent fasting tracker which is what Beth used, but it also offers a NutriScanner that is designed to help understand the nutrition in meals when eating at home or out and about.
“I really like not having to measure my food,” she said. “The Simple App gives me advice. It says your portion size should be the size of your palm and it also teaches me to track things like my hydration and my movement so I’m not just relying on my perceptions.”
Also available to use on the app are daily workout plans. Simple creates a personalised workout plan and routines that include yoga, pilates, HIIT, walking and Tai Chai. Beth, who loves to horse ride said: “I was frustrated because I’m really not a gym or workout person. But I do have some physical pursuits that I use regularly – one of my hobbies is dressage riding and I ride my horse three or four times a week.
“I also go to yoga at least once a week and I do a couple of other movement therapy things that help with balance and mobility.” A newer feature with Simple is Avo, the in app coach that can instantly answer users’ questions. “The Avo coach has also encouraged me to do things like prepare healthy snacks that I can have on hand,” Beth explained, adding that one of her favourite snacks is a hummus vegetable dip.
“Avo would also recommend that there were things I could do that could help make my many hours spent at my computer more healthy,” she said. “The suggestions would be to get a standing desk or vary my position between sitting and standing intentionally several times a day. Or to take a walk and get some hand weights so I could do a few upper body exercises.”
With millions of downloads, Simple says the figure is upwards of 17 million, the journey for users begins with filling out a detailed survey to cover health goals, preference, past weight loss experiences and more. Beth added: “Simple, I’m really glad I found you. I hope lots of other people find you too.”
For an alternative, there’s Noom, a weight loss platform that focuses on mindful eating, not strict diets. Highly scientific, Noom offers lots of support to clients, saying they create ‘fun’ personalised courses for people – with pricing depending on the plan and the individual. Noom says their aim is to “empower people everywhere to lead better, healthier lives—and not just our members.”
Or there’s MyFitnessPal – a calorie tracker and BMI calculator designed to help people meet their targets and track their nutritional intake and costs around £19.99 a month, but there are some free sections available on the app.
Simple has been rated highly however with a 4.3 out of 5 star rating on Trustpilot, a 4.7 rating on AppStore and voted the number one app of 2025 by Forbes. One person said: “Easy to use. Fantastic support and interaction with the Coach. Exercises are achievable or adjustable if needed. I’d recommend this app.”
Another added: “They took my concern very seriously and with efficiency. I didn’t feel taken for granted.” Some did disagree slightly as one person said: “This app is difficult to use and if I do the exercise sequence it does not log the whole time.”
Another said: “I would definitely pay for the app but it doesn’t sync up all the time with my steps.”
Overall, most people were pleased as this person concluded: “The support team member was able to assist me with my order and was extremely prompt to guide my questions. Very good customer service!”
