People have been told to wait before they press book as one trick could slash the cost of your next holiday
Holidaymakers who haven’t yet booked their summer getaway still have time to cut costs before take-off.
According to Which?, travellers planning to fly should consider the day they depart. Current advice suggests it’s often cheaper to “fly out on a Saturday rather than Friday.
It explained: “Google Flights and Skyscanner will show you a graph of the cheapest days to fly during your chosen month. Fridays and Sundays are typically the most expensive; Tuesdays are typically the cheapest.
“Of course, Tuesdays aren’t convenient for many people, but you will probably save money on a weekend break if you fly out on a Saturday and come back on a Monday rather than going Friday to Sunday. You miss the same amount of time at work but save a fortune.”
Another tip to save some cash urges parents to “check school holiday dates and consider a different airport”.
It explains that half-term dates vary by region, with London and the South East often out of sync with the Midlands and northern England. Travelling via another region can sometimes be cheaper, though it may take longer. Summer holiday dates also differ widely between England and Scotland.
With this in mind, it suggests: “It’s worth checking inset (teacher training) days at your children’s school. These are often on a Friday or Monday, tagged onto a school holiday, and it will usually be cheaper to fly out on one of these days.”
Airports warning for passengers
If you are set to fly from London, for example, officials at London City Airport have reminded passengers to remember the following.
- Leave liquids, laptops, tablets and other electronic devices inside hand luggage
- Smart watches should be placed in the tray for screening. All other watches may remain on your wrist as you pass through security.
- Liquids and gels only allowed in containers of up to 100ml in hand luggage
- Each item must be 100ml or less. Ensure the volume is clearly visible on the original product label.
- Only one cigarette lighter allowed per person
- Declare camera film to the security officer before it enters the CT scanner
