Mirror’s fashion team got a sneak preview of Marks & Spencer’s spring clothing range dropping into stores this week, and these are the pieces they predict will fly off shelves
We almost look forward to spring and summer weather as much as we do M&S’ new-season collections that drop around this time every year. Packed with trend-led designs and flattering fabrics at affordable pricing, the spring/summer pieces are always just what our post-winter wardrobes cry out for.
Yesterday, Mirror’s fashion team got an early preview of the designs from M&S Collection, Autograph and Jaeger that you’ll find in stores and online from today, Thursday 19 March, and oh, are you in for a treat. The standout ‘Love That’ range features plenty of suede pieces that play into the ‘cowboy core’ trend that’s still riding high. You’ll also find pops of cherry red, cow print and some of the brand’s best-selling bomber fit jackets in updated textures.
From an £89 suede trench to rival & Other Stories’ in-demand coat, to a cropped utility jacket that started going viral on social media before it even had the chance to drop on the website, we can safely say M&S has secured itself the position of our favourite fashion retailer once more.
Here, we talk you through the six pieces we predict are set for sell-out success. Get your ‘add to cart’ fingers at the ready!
M&S Collection Double Breasted Longline Trench Coat
Shop it for £89
Roman’s best spring dresses all under £45, handpicked by a fashion editor
Nobody’s Child has the perfect dress for Easter in celeb-loved pattern
With its flattering cinched waist, classic double-breasted design and effortlessly chic longline cut, it’s perfect for adding a touch of sophistication to any outfit, rain or shine.
Head of fashion Zoe says: “We all know the colder temperatures aren’t going anywhere soon, so I know I’m going to get plenty of use out of this beauty. I say ‘get’ because this was the first item I added to my own basket this morning. It reminds me of & Other Stories’ £695 trench that I’ve been eyeing up for weeks, but for a much more affordable price. I’ll be styling it layered over a cream dress with gold jewellery and heeled suede ankle boots.”
Per Una Suede Embroidered Collared Shirt
Shop the shirt for £229 (matching skirt available for £149)
This effortlessly combines classic tailoring with delicate detailing. Crafted from soft suede, this regular-fit shirt features a collared neckline, concealed button placket, and all-over embroidered eyelet detailing, offering a textural and sophisticated look.
Fashion writer Grace says: “Suede is, of course, everywhere this spring, and boxy suede tops and jackets, in particular, are a huge trend. This one is from the Per Una collection, so it retails for a bit more than the normal range. However, the heavy-duty material and luxe craftsmanship are well worth the money in my eyes. This is definitely an investment piece (or pieces, if you get the skirt too) that you can keep for years to come.”
M&S Collection Woven Ballet Pumps
Shop them for £45
A chic and comfortable addition to your footwear collection. Featuring a timeless woven design and easy slip-on style, these flats are perfect for effortless everyday wear.
Head of fashion Zoe says: “Cherry red was a trending tone last summer and it’s back for another season in 2025. As a millenial, I never thought I’d see the day when ballet bumps made a comeback, but they certainly have. However, they aren’t the ugly style we wore to school, rather pairs like these in trending colourways and with woven or mesh materials to much them so very much more chic.”
M&S Collection Bubble Hem Top and Bubble Hem Skirt
Shop the top for £29.50 and the skirt for £39.50 (LAUNCHING SOON)
Your perfect spring co-ord. The top features a round neck design and the sleeves have a bubble hem to add volume and shape. The matching skirt has a similar bubble hem and an A-line cut with a midi length.
Zoe says: “I dare you to find me a more perfect red co-ord for daytime wear. I love the statement sleeves, the thick cotton fabric and the deep red colour. I also love how it’s been styled here with matching cherry-red accessories – it’s exactly the kind of wearable colour blocking that’s bang on trend for SS25. Pair it with kitten heels and I guarantee you’ll reel in compliments.”
M&S Collection Utility Jacket
Shop it for £65
A stylish and practical choice for changeable weather. Made from breathable pure cotton, this regular-fit jacket features a zip-through fastening, buttoned cuffs and shoulders for a smart aesthetic, and two front flap pockets for added utility. Its Stormwear technology provides an innovative finish to protect from light rain showers.
Grace says: “I’ve seen this jacket all over my socials, and I’m obsessed with it. It’s been available to purchase in-store over the past couple of weeks and has now officially launched online. The utility details give the piece a cool edge, and the cropped shape is perfect for pairing with wide-leg jeans and midi skirts. Similar to & Other Stories’ £145 one, this is a bit more affordable at £65.”
M&S Collection Denim Utility Jacket
Shop it for £45 (LAUNCHING SOON)
A collarless denim jacket that could easily be mistaken for a designer buy, gold buttons work to add a touch of utility to the buy while the boxy shape is made to be worn over fitted dresses to give them a more casual look, or paired with high-waisted work or linen trousers for a structured shape.
Grace says: “Polka dots are going to be all over the high street this season, especially when it comes to occasionwear. However, I love how M&S toned down the polka dot mini for everyday wear by layering a denim jacket over the top. The collarless design and Balmain-style gold buttons make the jacket feel a bit more elevated than the usual ones we see, so I think this is going to be a sell-out piece”.
