The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said in an update released this evening that Waitrose was recalling the water over the ‘possible presence of glass fragments upon opening the bottles’
Waitrose has been forced to recall bottles from one of its own bottled water lines over the “possible presence of glass fragments”, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has said in a warning released today.
The agency said in a statement released this evening that the supermarket giant would be recalling Waitrose No1 Deeside Mineral Water and Waitrose No1 Deeside Sparkling Water over concerns about the “presence of glass fragments upon opening the bottles”.
The agency’s statement read: “Waitrose is recalling Waitrose No1 Deeside Mineral Water and Waitrose No1 Deeside Sparkling Water because of the possible presence of glass fragments upon opening the bottles.”
The batch codes that should be returned for Deeside Mineral Water are: NOV 2027 28. DEC 2027 01. DEC 2027 02. DEC 2027 10. DEC 2027 11. DEC 2027 16. And the batch codes that should be returned for Deeside Sparkling Water are: DEC 2027 01. DEC 2027 03. DEC 2027 12. DEC 2027 15. DEC 2027 25.
In its statement, the FSA adds that the products “may contain glass which may cause injury”, making them “unsafe to drink”, and people have been advised to return bottles to the supermarket.
Customers should make sure they don’t consume the item, package them up, and return them to the store from which they were originally purchased “for a full refund”. Anyone requiring additional information has been referred onwards to Waitrose’s customer care, which can be reached at 0800 188 884.
The alert comes a week after Waitrose was forced to recall another product, the TINC Festive Santa Bottle, “due to safety reasons”, and more than two weeks after the FSA issued another glass-related recall.
On December 10, the FSA said spirits and liqueur producer Illva Saronno S.p.A was recalling the popular festive liqueur Disaronno Originale 700ml. Much like the Waitrose bottled water, the Disaronno recall was again made “for safety reasons” due to the risk of potentially consuming shards of glass.
The affected products, the FSA said, had the batch codes 25374, 25375, 25381, 25382, 25435, 25442, 25444. The FSA said it was “unsafe to drink” and advised customers to package and return the product to the shop where it was bought.
The agency said in a statement at the time: “Illva Saronno S.p.A is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought it.”
It added: “If you have bought the above product, do not consume it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a refund or replacement. For further information, please contact Illva Saronno S.p.A on: [email protected].”
