The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued urgent product recalls for items sold at Amazon, Boots, Hobbycraft and Next
A host of everyday items have been removed from the shelves this week, with customers being urged not to use the products. The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued a raft of product recalls over items that pose a risk to the public.
Their alerts have encompassed shampoo, conditioner, toys, homeware and appliances. Some of the products present a chemical hazard, while another has been found to contain asbestos.
We’ve compiled the most crucial product recalls from the past week for you to be aware of….
Shampoo and conditioner
The Pilgrim Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and Conditioner Set has been withdrawn from Amazon after a banned ingredient posing a “serious chemical risk” was discovered. It contains Zinc Pyrithione, which is forbidden for use in cosmetic products, reports the Express.
The affected products bear the code: HS5130 Jul 2025 395.00 1.98. Amazon’s codes are B0D5DBM7G7 for the shampoo and B0D5D9BF3Q for the conditioner.
The OPSS cautioned: “The product presents a serious chemical risk as the ingredients list indicates it contains Zinc Pyrithione, which is prohibited for use in cosmetic products.
“It also includes the following undeclared allergens: hydroxycitronellal, hexyl cinnamal, and limonene. This could lead to consumers with sensitivities using these products and having an allergic reaction.”
Craft toy
Hobbycraft has recalled its Giant Box of Craft product following tests that revealed the coloured sand may contain a “small quantity” of asbestos. The OPSS has warned that even minimal exposure to asbestos can present a health risk.
The affected product, sold under the Hobbycraft brand, is described as a box of mixed craft supplies containing vials of coloured sand. The product number is 6686021000, which is printed beneath the barcode on the packaging, and was manufactured in China.
Sun cream
Hello Sunday The One For Your Eyes SPF 50 has been recalled this week. It is stocked in Boots stores nationwide and online, as well as other retailers.
All batch numbers and expiry dates are included in the recall. The recall follows tests that found the product failed to meet the level of SPF stated on the product label.
Customers have been urged to return the product and receive a refund.
Homeware
Next has issued a recall notice for two of its homeware products – their Gingerbread Serveboard and Gingerbread Nibble Bowls. They both feature a festive-inspired design but the enamel coating on the homeware items can crack and chip.
There is a risk to customers as they may accidentally swallow fragments of the material, which could pose a danger. The OPSS has warned: “We recommend you cease use of this product immediately and return to your nearest Next store for a full refund.”
Hairdryer
The OPSS has issued a warning about the Hairdryer LD-330, which has been turned away at the border for failing to meet safety standards. The product identifiers are IC950351251009660, 921555291788, 950351-T50, and 7016801.
Originating from China, it’s described as a styling hairdryer with an attached wall plug. “The product presents a high risk of fire because the plug fuse does not meet the requirements of BS 1362,” stated the OPSS.
“The filler is required to ensure the safe operation of the fuse under fault conditions, and its absence could lead to the plug overheating and/or exploding.”
