Latest crime statistics from the City Safety Index reveal the 10 UK areas with the highest crime rates, with two areas in one city claiming the top spots
According to the latest data from Get Licensed, the UK’s premier security training provider, 10 locations warrant extra vigilance. The City Safety Index has ranked Manchester as the tenth most dangerous city in the UK.
Despite an average crime rate of 152 per 1,000 residents, this northern powerhouse has seen a marked improvement compared to last year.
Leicester, meanwhile, holds the dubious honour of being the ninth most dangerous city in Britain, with Newcastle upon Tyne in eighth place and Middlesbrough taking seventh place. Blackpool, however, outstrips them all, securing sixth place on the list of riskiest locations.
Bristol, steeped in history, has clocked up a crime rate just below that of London’s Westminster borough, making it only slightly safer.
Nottingham ranks among the top three most hazardous locations in Britain. With an annual crime rate of roughly 118 per 1,000 residents across postcodes NG1 to NG34, it ranks among the top three most dangerous areas, according to the Express.
Despite the allure of certain parts of the Capital, Islington has been singled out as the “second least safe place in Great Britain”.
This is particularly true for postcodes N1, N4 to N8, N16 and N19, where robberies and thefts are the most commonly reported crimes.
In fact, theft and robbery figures for the area are running at “three times higher than the national average”. Crime in the neighbourhood has surged by more than 8% compared to the previous year, while reoffending rates continue to sit at worrying levels.
Topping the list as Britain’s “most dangerous” area is the London borough of Camden.
Despite Camden’s enduring popularity with both locals and tourists alike, the area has gained notoriety for incidents of harassment, antisocial behaviour, and violent disorder.
Postcodes spanning the Camden borough – especially N1, N6, N7, N19, and NW1 through to NW8 – have been flagged as the highest-risk zones. What’s more, offenders operating within Camden show a markedly high likelihood of reoffending.
