Yet another heatwave appears to be on the cards next week as weather forecasting models show temperatures rising past 30C for four consecutive days, peaking as high as 34C
Met Office forecasters say temperatures could reach 34C in some parts of the UK today – and now weather models suggest yet another heatwave will follow in just a few days’ time.
The mercury should hit 34C in London this afternoon, with 32C to come in the Midlands, 29C in the north-west and 27C in Cardiff. Temperatures will be cooler in Northern Ireland and Scotland, with the Met Office predicting afternoon highs of 21C in both Belfast and Glasgow.
The GFS weather model shows temperatures surging above 30C again on Wednesday next week, with highs of 33C possible in western England, 32C in Wales, and 31C as far north as Yorkshire.
For Thursday next week, the data suggests temperatures could reach 34C quite widely in eastern, central and southern parts of England, with most of England and Wales rising above 30C once more.
Similar conditions may follow on the Friday when 34C highs are possible in western areas, and on the Saturday when 34C is on the cards in the south-east of England.
Temperature anomaly maps for next week show England and Wales shaded in areas of dark red. This indicates where temperatures are expected to rise well above the seasonal average.
In total, the GFS model suggests 15 counties could see the mercury reach 34C or more next week. They are all in England.

Met Office weather forecast
The Met Office says temperatures should remain above average next week, although we’re unlikely to see “exceptional heat”. There is also a risk of “thundery interludes” in southern areas.
The national weather agency says: “Towards mid August, high pressure may become rather more dominant towards the north of the UK, with lower pressure further to the south.
“This means there is a greater chance for Atlantic frontal systems or thundery interludes to affect southern areas, certainly in comparison to recent weeks, though rainfall amounts could be quite variable with some areas seeing relatively little.
“For the most part, temperatures look to remain above average, especially in the south, though perhaps without the exceptional heat we have seen in recent weeks.”
