Weather forecasting maps suggest temperatures will soon hit 23C in some parts of the UK with as many as 28 counties facing a heat surge towards the end of April

Temperatures in as many as 28 counties across the UK could soon surge to 20C and above, according to the latest weather forecasting maps.

The ECMWF weather model shows Brits face a heat surge later this month. Some areas could see the mercury rise as high as 23C, the data suggests.

The maps show temperatures will peak in the south-east of England and along the south coast on April 29. However, balmy conditions are also on the cards in East Anglia, the Midlands and parts of Wales.

Temperatures won’t be too cold further north either. The ECMWF model shows highs of 18C in Northern Ireland and southern parts of Scotland, and 16C in the Scottish Highlands.

The Met Office says “high pressure” could dominate before the end of this month. However, it also states that some unseasonal April snow is on the cards.

The Met Office forecast for April 21 to 30 states: “High pressure to the north of the UK will bring plenty of dry weather and sunny spells at first. A few scattered showers are possible in central and eastern areas.

“Parts of the east coast could be on the chilly side with low cloud and an onshore breeze, but further west it will feel quite warm, especially in sunnier areas.

“By the weekend, unsettled weather is signalled to return, but confidence in the details is low with a range of scenarios possible. One scenario is for a northerly wind bringing wintry showers to northern and eastern coasts, and some snow over Scottish mountains.

“If this does occur it will probably not last more than a few days, before high pressure attempts to return towards the end of the month.”
