- Advanced weather forecasting maps show a ‘Beast from the East’ snowstorm could blanket major cities across the UK in the white stuff in just days. GFS weather models show snow sweeping across the UK from the east on February 5.
- Flurries are forecast to hit the sout-east and East Anglia to start with, as London looks set to see snow falling from 6pm. By 9pm, maps show snow covering a huge swathe of eastern, central and southern England.
- By 6am on February 6, flurries will have reached northern Scotland and Wales, according to the maps. The wall of snow’s path means several major cities are foreacst snow, including Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
- Snow is set to reach Birmingham and the Peak District by 6pm on February 6. On February 7, intense snow is expected to fall on the border of England and Wales.
- The Scottish Highlands, which often bears the brunt of wintry weather, could see as much as 20cm settle. Meanwhile northern England and Wales can expect up to 5cm, according to the maps.
- The Met Office has warned of “wintry hazards” as we move into Februray, with the long range forecast for February 4 to 13 saying there could be “spells of rain at times, falling in areas already sensitive to flooding.” The forecaster added: “As these bands of rain spread northwards, some snow will be possible on high ground in northern England and Scotland as they encounter colder air.”
