A high street pharmacy chain has acquired another 68 branches from a rival firm.
Allied Pharmacies has taken over more sites from Jhoots Pharmacies. This comes on top of the 61 pharmacies Allied acquired from Jhoots last year.
You can find the full list, as first published by the Pharmaceutical Journal, below. There were about 150 Jhoots pharmacies across the UK before the Allied takeover.
A spokesman for the buyer said it was “focused on bringing these pharmacies back to full operational capacity as quickly as possible to safeguard patient care while also acknowledging the former Jhoots employees for their commitment and resilience during this challenging time”.
It comes after trade unions and MPs raised concerns about operational problems at Jhoots, including allegations of staff not being paid.
The impacted Jhoots branches are operated by Sarbjit Jhooty. His brother Manjit Jhooty recently revealed to the BBC that he has rebranded his separate stores to JHL Pharmacy.
Manjit Jhooty told the BBC: “Although our businesses have been independent of each other since 2019, my directors and I feel it is necessary to further distinguish our operations beyond the public statements that have been made to date.
He added: “While we are saddened to see the Jhoots Pharmacy brand name go from the pharmacies I own after more than 20 years of hard work and dedication, we feel it is the most appropriate course of action given the circumstances.”
