The UK sector is facing another major blow with a freight company boasting 80 depots dropping into liquidation
An independent, family-run haulage firm has collapsed into liquidation in yet another significant blow for the freight industry. Gibbs Transport Limited, headquartered in Berkshire, appointed liquidators on June 30, according to the London Gazette.
The announcement was published by the Gazette in the early hours of July 6, with Rob Keyes and David Taylor of KRE Corporate Recovery Limited named as liquidators. At this stage, it remains unclear how many job losses will result from the decision.
Gibbs Transport Ltd, based at Coln Industrial Estate in Slough, describes itself as an “independent, family-run business” boasting an impressive 80 depots spread across the UK.
The company operates a “comprehensive fleet of vehicles” ranging from small vans to large payload curtain-sided vehicles. The firm claims to have provided a nationwide same-day UK delivery service alongside pallet distribution.
Gibbs Transport stated that they carry out haulage work on a contractual basis, while also taking on one-off jobs as required. In addition to its delivery services, Gibbs Transport has also provided storage and warehousing facilities for its customers, reports the Express.
The firm boasted that its storage facilities are “ideally located” just minutes away from Heathrow Airport. Gibbs highlighted that they provide a round-the-clock service, seven days a week, with all goods fully insured.
The company takes pride in delivering a “personal service at all times”, ensuring every customer is treated as an individual.
This follows another family-run haulage firm that collapsed into administration only days ago.
The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has warned that hundreds of businesses are at risk of folding, with insolvencies “tipped to rise”.
The closure is set to leave a significant gap in the local area, with the firm having previously garnered largely glowing reviews from its clientele.
Customer Guy Crevald previously remarked: “[I] have had a few deliveries from Gibbs and the driver is always helpful.
“They do have to work to a certain set of rules but all the drivers that have delivered to me have been helpful and will usually do what they can to help.”
Fellow customer David Welling added: “We have been working with Gibbs for a number of years and can’t fault the service from booking to delivery of goods.”
