PSNI said a gang of men started attacking the occupants of a house on Donegall Avenue in Belfast as they tried to leave, injuring two people as a terrified woman and several children huddled inside
Two men have been arrested after an attack being treated as racially motivated in Belfast on Saturday night, involving a woman and several young children.
The PSNI today said police in Belfast had arrested the two men after a racially motivated attack on a home with children inside in the southern area of the city in the early hours of this morning.
Inspector Wilson said: “Shortly before 1.10am, Sunday 14th June, it was reported that a number of males approached a house and began shouting in an aggressive manner as the occupants were trying to leave the property.
“This group then confronted the residents of the property and attacked them, resulting in injuries to two people and damage to the property. It is believed a number of weapons may have been used in this incident.
“Damage was also caused to a car outside the property. A woman and a number of young children were inside the property at the time of the incident, which at this time, is being treated as a racially-motivated hate crime.”
Inspector Wilson continued: “Officers responded quickly and have subsequently arrested one man aged in his 40s, and one man aged in his 20s, on suspicion of a number of related offences.
“They remain in police custody at this time, assisting with enquiries. Our enquiries are ongoing, and we would appeal to anyone with any information which might assist us to get in touch via 101, quoting reference number 101 of 14/06/26.
“We would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who might have any relevant CCTV or ring doorbell footage.”
