Charles Barkley has admitted he was invited to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding, but he declined as he branded the event a ‘crap show’
Charles Barkley has revealed he turned down the invitation to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding at Madison Square Garden. An estimated 1,100 guests attended the high-profile celebrity wedding on July 3rd, after the couple allegedly relocated their ceremony from Rhode Island to New York City just months beforehand.
Numerous sports figures and current NFL players were present at the wedding, though Barkley was amongst the few who declined the invitation. While discussing the Philadelphia 76ers’ surprising trade for Jaylen Brown, which sent Paul George to the Boston Celtics, Barkley explained to Philadelphia 97.5 The Fanatic his reasons for not attending their wedding day.
This follows reports suggesting half of the Kansas City Chiefs dressing room also gave the wedding a miss. Barkley said: “I don’t go to weddings or funerals. But I did get an invite, and I politely declined because I thought it was going to be a crap show.
“I love Travis and Jason, and I’ve only met Taylor one time, but yeah, I did get an invite. But I said, that’s just too much.
“I just want to hang out and play golf, and I don’t want to dress up and all that other stuff. But I appreciate the invitation; it was pretty special.”
Barkley’s remarks describing the wedding as a ‘crap show’ have not been well received by Swifties, with many flocking to social media to comment on his statements.
One wrote: “This is very rude and disrespectful for no reason. They were kind enough to invite you and this is what you say in response? I’m glad you didn’t go.”
Another hit back: “This is not the flex he thinks it is.”
Reports have emerged suggesting that the 1,100 guests were not treated to a three-course meal, instead being left to help themselves in what was described as a buffet-style arrangement.

Insiders spilled details about the lavish wedding to the Daily Mail, with one revealing: “I couldn’t believe that there was a buffet at the wedding of the year! That felt like such a tacky move.
“There were slightly chaotic scenes around the food carts with all these amazing A-listers having to stand in line. It wasn’t quite what I expected. You know Julia Roberts was there. And Steven Spielberg.”
Another guest was quoted as calling it “a bit of a s–t show.”
Kelce is due to rejoin the Kansas City Chiefs within a matter of weeks to commence his training camp, in what is widely expected to be his final season in the NFL.
