A UK Tesco customer, named Madeline, has shared her concerns over a dangerous social media prank which involves swapping the labels on food packaging. She slammed pranksters on TikTok
A woman was left stunned after she heated up her vegetarian microwavable dish and found out someone had swapped the packaging.
The Tesco customer, named Madeline, purchased a vegetarian lasagne only to discover it had been changed to a meat one. She suspects the label change was down to a cheeky prankster, who changed the packaging as an ill-fitted joke.
But despite it being a waste of money, the prank has highlighted how people with allergies could be at risk. Madeline shared the warning on her TikTok account called @madeleine_x00.
Madeline said: “Ok, so which t*** swapped the vegetarian lasagne label with the meat one at Tesco and ruined my tea.” She added in the caption: “Fuming and I’m in pyjamas, so can’t go to the shop.”
The video amassed more than 366.5k views and almost 4,000 shares. One social media user slammed the prankster and said: “This is so unbelievably dangerous if someone has an allergy.”

Another person commented: “I’ve always thought they should be glued for this reason because of allergies.” A third wrote: “People might just genuinely be allergic to what’s in this, could’ve caused health problems, [it’s] not on really.”
Someone else added: “This is scary. My sisters allergic to beef so this would be critical for her.” One social media user wrote: “It was probably another customer. I’ve seen videos of people swapping vegetarian meals for meat ones.”
Sadly, this isn’t the first time a suspected prankster has swapped the labels round with a Tesco lasange. The incident was also reported in 2019, which led to the supermarket chain launching an investigation into the label swap.

Tesco previously launched a crackdown after a prankster boasted about switching the packaging for beef and vegetable lasagna. In the post, an anonymous user wrote that they liked to “switch the cardboard sleeves” on vegetarian and meat lasagnes “just for fun”.
The prank was posted on a Facebook group for vegans in Edinburgh and Glasgow. One user said: “Should be a criminal offence to do that… someone could die if they eat something they’re allergic to.”
Another added: “That’s dangerous. What if there are people with allergies who go swapping packaging? They could kill someone with this stupidity.”
A third person urged people to “always check”their items and said: “If it’s indistinguishable I’d say that’s enough to not buy it. Buy frozen foods that come in a bag or a sealed cardboard box as it’s not easy to change the content.”
