I’ve been using my Lumie sunrise alarm clock to tackle SAD and help me wake up more easily during the dark winter mornings, and it’s currently got £30 off at Amazon
If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that waking up in the morning during winter is a struggle. Between the cold temperatures and the dark mornings, getting out of bed can feel impossible, even when you’ve got an alarm going off.
After finding it increasingly difficult to get out of bed, I picked up the Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 to see if it could help, and I was seriously impressed by the change it made. Although usually priced at £119, it’s currently on sale at Amazon down to £86.99, saving you more than £30.

The Lumie Alarm Clock has been incredibly helpful at making waking up feel like less of a chore. Usually in winter, when your alarm goes off you get startled awake in pitch black, probably press snooze a couple of times and then suddenly are blinded by the light when you finally turn it on. All in all, a very stressful way to start your day.
Instead, the Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 gradually introduces light into your morning, and you can choose how long before your wake up time you want it to start. I typically choose 30 minutes before my alarm goes off, with the clock gradually increasing in brightness to mimic a sunrise, giving you a more natural way of waking up.
The light itself also mimics a real sunrise, using mixed LEDs to progress through red and orange toned light into white. The steady introduction of light helps your body naturally start to wake up, so by the time your actual alarm goes off you’re no longer being jolted from a deep sleep.
Waking up to the light also helps me feel much more awake and alert from the get go, so I don’t start my day feeling groggy and irritated. You can choose whether you just want the light, or want to set an audible alarm too, and there’s a choice of 10 different sounds to pick from, including a traditional alarm or bird song for a more gentle wake up call.
It’s not just useful for waking up, either. You can also do the whole thing in reverse, with the light mimicking a natural sunset and sleep sounds like white noise to choose from that’ll help you drift off to sleep.
The display is also light-sensitive, so it dims in the dark making sure nothing wakes you up. The Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 is a certified medical device that’s been proven to treat seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and the ‘winter blues effectively.
I really can feel the difference in how my mornings start when I use the clock versus when I don’t, and it feels like my day starts with a more positive, calm vibe. I even find the light a softer, nicer light to use for reading etc before bed.
However, even with the £30 price cut the Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 is a little bit of a splurge, but if your budget won’t stretch to this one, there are other options to pick from. Dunelm currently has an older model of the Lumie Sunrise Digital Alarm Clock for £49, which works in a similar way although has slightly fewer functions and sounds.
At Not on the High Street, you can get the Calm Sleep Sounds Speaker And Bedside Light Alarm Clock for £59.88 which offers six different sleep sounds and customisable sleep timer for the light. You can also pick between cool and warm light, and it has a built-in bluetooth speaker and an analog clock with a backlight.
However, if you want to pick up my Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 you can now get it on sale at Amazon for £86.99 – and in my opinion, it’s worth every penny.
