The ‘Coupon King’ has shared a simple money-saving tip for your weekly food shop to help you spot any good offers and make the most of your savings – and people were left baffled
A money-saving expert dubbed the ‘Coupon King’ has revealed a clever trick to help Tesco shoppers squeeze every last penny out of the Clubcard savings.
With the cost of living crisis continuing to keep prices high, most households have been left having to spend more money on their weekly food shops. Some savvy shoppers will know to take advantage of supermarket loyalty cards like Tesco’s Clubcard to help save money and ease the financial strain.
But there’s a way to stretch your savings even further by spotting hidden clues on the supermarket’s discount labels. Jordon Cox, who goes by the ‘Coupon King’ nickname, regularly shares budget-busting tips across social media, racking up more than 51,600 followers on TikTok alone.
The savings guru, who is also a regular guest on ITV’s This Morning where he shares his thrifty advice, has now lifted the lid on a little-known Tesco secret, that will help you make the most of any Clubcard prices and boost your savings.
In a recent video, he revealed how Tesco’s Clubcard offer tags contain a six-digit code that shows exactly when each special offer expires – crucial information for timing your purchases and maximising savings.
“There’s a secret code at Tesco that saves you money,” he said at the start of the video.
Standing in front a display of Quality Street tubs adorned with the familiar Clubcard Prices promotional tags, he encouraged shoppers to examine the bottom corner of these labels more carefully, as they reveal crucial information about how much time remains to capitalise on the offer.
Located at the base of every Clubcard Prices tag sits a six-digit code, printed in smaller, grey text. While it may initially appear as a meaningless sequence, it actually contains valuable information.
Jordon broke down the code, explaining that the final two digits represent the day, the middle pair indicates the month, and the opening two digits show the year when a particular promotion comes to an end.
“If it’s something you buy regularly, you now know when to stock up before the price goes up,” he advised his audience.
In his caption, he further noted: “If you can avoid paying full price, you’ll save a bit of cash on your shopping trips!”.
Numerous viewers rushed to the comments to express their reactions, with many impressed by the straightforward budget-saving tip.
“This information changed my life,” one viewer declared, whilst another remarked: “I thought that everybody knew this.”
A third person pointed out: “Tells you on the app too.”
